January 10th 2019 Kit Leese: Demonstration Watercolour - Landscape Kit grew up surrounded by the East Anglian landscape, which is now a major subject of his work. At Bangor University painting became as important to him as his degree and he made full use of the mountains of North Wales to develop a feel for landscape painting, particularly in gouache. Kit often paints on the spot to preserve immediacy and a sense of place His main subjects also include gardens and flowers. February 14th 2019 Susan Boddy: Demonstration of Mixed Media - London Bus and more Susan is a qualified music teacher and has worked in schools and privately for over 40 years. She has developed a passion for painting in watercolour and more recently in acrylics and mixed media. She has been painting seriously for over 15 years, attending many courses led by inspirational artists. Having lived in East Anglia all her life, Susan is constantly stimulated by the beautiful landscape. We look forward to welcoming you for both these demonstrations from talented and inspiring local artists. The Ongar Art Society Membership: We are a group of people who enjoy all aspects of Art. Marian Williamson Publicity Officer for Ongar Art Society Winter Feed Appeal You can help hundreds of horses like Daisy (pictured) survive this winter by supporting our Winter Feed Appeal. Many horses will die this winter without food. We can help them, but we need your donations to help us buy the sheer volume of hay that is always required. We cannot afford to buy the lorry loads of hay to deliver out, without your support. In the picture, Daisy is safe, warm and fed, now happily residing at Remus Horse Sanctuary – she is one of eight horses that we rescued in the summer of 2018. Two of those horses were left out in the heatwave with no food, water or shelter; two horses were kept in a cage, again with no food or water; four stallions had been kept in closed dirty stables for two years… Can you picture the horror of that situation? Sadly, it’s one that many, many foals and horses experience and will die without our assistance. The cold winter months will make any situation worse and we will need to get food and water out to them regularly to avoid starvation and ultimately death. We will try to deliver as many lorry-loads of hay to those horses that need it, but it will set the Sanctuary back many thousands of pounds. We need your help to raise those funds. At present, there are more than 7,000 horses at risk in the UK and the welfare crisis in this country continues to escalate year on year with little or no progress – when the mares foal, the problem doubles and so on and so forth each year. The news regularly features horses that are victims of physical and mental abuse and we continue to receive calls daily throughout the year. Keeping an animal fed over winter will give it a chance to thrive into spring. Forage also helps a horse keep warm. Without the Sanctuary’s help, many animals will die a slow, painful and unnecessary death. Please, help us to help them! ingatestone FEB .qxp_Layout 1 29/01/2019 13:50 Page 9 The David Pickthall Big Band at St. Mary’s Church, Woodham Ferrers Sunday July 14th, 2.30pm for 3pm ! Friends of St. Mary’s Church Woodham Ferrers (FOSM) are delighted to announce that concert tickets are now available from St. Mary’s on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. -12 noon or by calling Sharon on 07773 644326 . Tickets cost £11. Under 12’s and FOSM members pay £5 and this price includes homemade interval refreshments. FOSM decided to opt for an afternoon concert to maximise accessibility. All proceeds will go towards the restoration of the Bell Tower. This promises to be an exceptional occasion and there are only 180 seats available so don’t leave it too late. There is plenty of available parking and closer access for anyone with mobility issues. David Pickthall MBE and his Big Band usually meet up to perform four concerts for charity a year but have very kindly agreed to make St. Mary’s an exception! Their repertoire is drawn from the classic swing sounds of the 1930’s right through to contemporary ballads and film themes. The full band with strings and vocalists coupled with church acoustics makes for an incredible musical experience. For more details and to hear some of their recordings you can visit www.davidpickthall.co.uk St. Mary’s are also planning some special Open Sundays this Summer. Between May and September on the first Sunday of the month the church is open from 2 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. and homemade refreshments will be available. On June 2nd at 2.30 p.m. you are invited to join us on a 3 mile walk from and to the church using one of the five available route maps. These maps mark points of interest along the way and everyone is welcome. If you can’t make June 2nd but you have a group who would like to walk one or more of the routes call the Churchwarden for more information. On July 7th Friends of St.Mary’s will display information gathered on the names recorded on our War Memorials. If anyone has any additional information they could share please bring it along on July 7th as we would be delighted to see it. It is hoped to collate a detailed record for future visitors to enjoy. Finally we continue to collect old mobile phones, inkjet and laser toner cartridges for recycling. If you have anything to donate we can arrange collections or you could drop it off on Tuesday mornings. Last year we raised over £100 towards our running costs and our recycling donations are steadily growing.
