Historic Midland

When James T. Claire opened his air conditioning,
plumbing and refrigeration service in
1987, he had a 200-square-foot warehouse, one
employee, and a reputation for quality service,
built through his years of service on Sears
Roebuck appliances and equipment.
His goal was to provide customers with
excellent service, quickly and efficiently, while
also attracting the best manufacturers of equipment.
The company succeeded. That first year,
Claire’s Air Conditioning, Plumbing &
Refrigeration had total sales of $67,000.
By 1989, Claire’s Inc. moved into a larger
building with 2,500 square feet of office space,
centrally located between Midland and Odessa.
In 1992, Claire’s sales volume was
$1,400,000, making it one of the Permian
Basin’s largest heating, air conditioning and
plumbing contractors. In its first eight years, the
company’s sales volume had increased by more
than 3,000 percent!
In 1994, with 30 employees, the company
added a new division, Crystal Claire Water
Conditioning, as an additional service to its customers.
In 1995, it opened a location in Wichita
Falls. In 1997, Claire’s merged with Service
Experts, to gain strength and buying power, an
advantage to customers needing replacements
or parts. The company’s stock is traded over the
New York Stock Exchange as Service Experts.
As a recognized leader in the air conditioning
industry, Claire’s Inc. is a member of the Better
Business Bureau, Midland and Odessa
Chambers of Commerce, ACCA, NADCA and
other associations.
Claire’s growth has come from hard work,
well-trained personnel and satisfied customers
who know they will always get the same quick,
efficient and excellent service they have had
from the beginning.
Today, the company’s sales exceed $6.5 million
annually, with 70 employees, and the familiar
Claire’s trucks are a familiar and welcome
sight throughout the area.
