When he moved the Class AAA Oilers to<br />

New Orleans before the 1977 season, <strong>Tulsa</strong><br />

was faced with no professional baseball.<br />

Building contractor Bill Rollings obtained<br />

the Texas Rangers AA team from Lafayette,<br />

Louisiana, and <strong>Tulsa</strong> re-entered the Texas<br />

League. In a fan contest, “Drillers” was<br />

selected as a nickname.<br />
