Before then, join us on 31st March for Mothering Sunday on the evening of which we have a service of meditation at 7pm in St Margaret’s to the music of the Taize community. Blessings, Revd Mike Bisset Penn Free Methodist Church On Friday February 15th at 8pm we are holding a special meeting entitled, THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD, to which anyone interested is invited. Mr Graham Chewter will update us on the work of the Trinitarian Bible Society (TBS), which translates and distributes the Scriptures all around the world. For example, the Society is currently working on a Simte Bible, Simte being a language spoken in northeastern India. Also, work is continuing at present on a revision of the 1909 ‘Reina-Valera’ Bible, which is a Spanish translation first published in 1602, and which possesses the same kind of major landmark status as the King James Version does in English. The importance of this project is brought home to us when one considers that around 437 million people in the world currently have Spanish as their native language. Here in the UK, if you ever see large Bible verse posters displayed at railway stations. they have probably been published and placed there by the TBS. On Wednesday February 27th at 8pm we have a visit from Mr Gary Donaldson of the Lanka Evangelical Fellowship of Churches, who will speak on the work of this missionary society in Sri Lanka. Life is not easy for Sri Lankan Christians, who comprise some 8% of the population. Many of them are impoverished and have to endure persecution from their local communities. Those who abuse the believers often avoid apprehension because of a failure by the Police to act on the Christians’ behalf. Do join us to learn about the gospel witness of Bible-believing churches in this needy part of the world. A recent upload to our Sermons Recordings website is an address based on Isaiah 8:9 to 9:7, which is entitled, THE CONNECTION www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice February/March 2019 BETWEEN THE BIRTH OF CHRIST AND A GRAVE NATIONAL CRISIS. Some 700 years before Christ's birth Old Testament Israel was going through a dreadful national crisis, being attacked and humiliated by the mighty empire of Assyria. It was a time of utter darkness for the nation, but in the midst of this crisis the coming of Christ was foretold. This was Israel's true hope. Assyria's suppression of Israel represents the spiritual darkness of our own nation today in its profound rebellion against God. The only solution to this national crisis is repentance from sin and faith in Him who is the Light of the World, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. For Anglican friends, a Methodist District is somewhat similar to an Anglican Diocese, and a Circuit is a number of churches within same area of the District and grouped together for administrative and practical purposes. Vida has the pastoral care of three other churches at Holmer Green, Downley and Cryers Hill.Vida writes: "As a widow, family support means a lot to me. Moving to the High Wycombe Circuit in the Northampton District was good for keeping me in contact with my family in West London. The move has been challenging due to the increased number of churches in my pastoral charge and the rural setting, which I have not been used to. However, this experience has taught me that God is bigger than our challenges. I have been overwhelmed by the welcome, love and support given me by the District Chair, Superintendent, circuit ministers, leadership team, supernumeraries and the circuit congregations". Blessings, Peter Stevens, Senior Church Steward 11
