All of us at TGFS would like to wish villagers a
very Happy & Healthy New Year for 2019.
We hope everyone had a relaxing and
enjoyable break over Christmas and New Year.
We have started 2019 with enthusiasm. The
children and staff are looking forward to the
activities ahead over the coming terms.
I hope that everyone who attended our
Christmas Fair last term enjoyed meeting our
parents and staff and had a good time. It is
always nice to welcome members of the
community to our school fairs: we appreciate
you taking the time to support us.
Our very successful Christmas Nativity plays
were enjoyed by all. We were also lucky to have
a visit from Santa on party day when he spent
the afternoon with each class in turn. Everyone
enjoyed talking to Santa again and playing party
games together after the hard work of the term.
We look forward to the new term and
anticipate the upcoming activities.Our parent
volunteer reading mentors are currently being
trained by ABC 2 Read before they start their
work with the children this term.
We had our annual pantomime on the first
afternoon of term last week, performed by a
travelling theatre company in school. A good
time was had by all and it made a lovely
afternoon for the children returning to school.
Having the visiting theatre company provides
us with an opportunity to introduce the children
to a live theatre/ pantomime. Teachers often
help by having a small role in the production!
We had a visit from the Toy Workshop for
Year 1 when the children study and handle toys
from other times- this always causes some
nostalgia amongst some of us on the staff team
and the parents. The children thoroughly enjoy
this opportunity. As always we were well
supported by parent helpers who helped us to
make the day run as smoothly as possible.
We will also have a One World Week in the
Village Voice February/March 2019
lead up to half term when we will learn about
lots of new and exciting places. The children
always enjoy our themed weeks and we always
find time to share what we have done with each
other in an assembly or by walking around the
school and visiting each other’s classrooms.
During One World Week we will have an
African drumming workshop which enables all
the children to participate and have a great deal
of fun playing the drums led by an expert.
We will also havepancake races on Shrove
Tuesday this year. Last year this fell during our
half term so this year I am hoping for good
weather and some fun racing with the pancakes!
Last term also saw the successful launch of
our school lottery which we invite members of
the community to support. You may have
received a leaflet through your front door or
been approached by a relative who has a child at
the school. There is a weekly prize as well as
other larger prizes and this is a very simple way
to support your local village school. From
tickets sold over the past 4 weeks, since TGFS's
first lottery draw on 15th December, £106.80
has been raised. We've also had 4 local winners
so far each winning between £20 and £21.30.
Each draw takes place weekly on a Saturday:
tickets must be purchased by the Wednesday to
be in with a chance of winning for the following
Saturday. To be in with a chance of winning the
local prize and national prize of £25,000 per
week go to the yourschoollottery website:
https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/
school/tylers-green-first-school. Thank you to
all who have bought tickets so far, well done to
the winners and good luck for the next draw!
We are always looking for people amongst
the community who have a skill to offer or to
share with us and this can be as much or as little
as you feel able to offer, please contact the
school on 01494 813201. A Happy New Year to
all from TGFS! Mrs J Dieppe, Headteacher
