SPORTS NEWS ROUND UP Village Voice February/March 2019 XMAS CURRY! P&TG Lawn Tennis Club www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Looking back on the last of 2018, the Christmas holidays were really sociable at the club with lots of fun events, and a bit of competition thrown into the festive selection box too. The Tuesday morning ladies kicked off the festivities in style with a pot luck luncheon in the clubhouse. Many thanks to those that joined us for a Christmas Curry at Mr India; the food was absolutely delicious and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves. The last Club night of the year was held in fancy dress with mulled wine keeping everyone warm courtside. In between Christmas and New Year we held our annual Over vs Under 30s competition, which was as hotly contested as ever. Ladies had a closely fought battle with the ‘Overs’ winning 13-12. Ollie Godwin was injured early in the day which left the men’s ‘Unders’ with an uphill struggle. Men’s ‘Overs’ triumphed 18-7 and everyone really enjoyed the day. The team tennis on Sunday 30th December was won by the parent and child team and I’m reliably informed it was fabulous to see ‘club legends’ Sam Carey, Craig Smith and Matt Harrison back playing at the club. We are now looking forward to Spring, and membership renewals fall in April. We are a really friendly club, and we welcome nonmembers to get in touch with our fabulous coach Neil James on 07929 157075 or coaching@ penntennis.co.uk. We have a wide range of sessions in the timetable to suit all ranges of ability. On the pitch the first team have been finding their feet with an equal number of wins and losses. At the time of writing 3 points separate 3rd and eleventh so no predictions where we will finish! However the future looks positive, as we continue to field one of the youngest teams in the league, so this season could be the start of something special. Our development side are setting a strong pace winning their opening 10 games in the league. Hopes are high we can bring the title back home! Our junior sections continue to thrive. Across all age groups from 5-12 we have great coaches looking after 30 kids per section! The slightly 19
