IN MEMORY: NICK CRICHTON December 17th 2018 was a sad day for the village and in particular Penn and Tylers Green Cricket Club. It saw the passing of one of its most influential members, Nick Crichton, who lived in the village for over 30 years and was an honorary life member of the club. Nick was remembered by many national newspapers for his pioneering work as a judge, where he founded the UK’s first Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC). The members of P&TGCC are more likely to recall his fine wicket-keeping and middle order batting as well as the jokes and stories he would tell to the slip cordon between balls. He was oft to be seen completing the cryptic crossword and listening to Test Match Special whilst waiting to bat in his trademark shabby hat and with his beloved antique bat! He played for the club for over 30 years in a golden period seeing P&TGCC win www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice <strong>Feb</strong>ruary/March 20<strong>19</strong> NICK WAS A FAMILIAR FIGURE IN THE VILLAGE, WALKING HIS SPANIELS IN COMMON WOOD AND THE SURROUNDING FIELDS. many titles and even playing host to Middlesex County Cricket Club. Our members aged between 30 and 45 will undoubtedly remember Nick as their first cricket coach. Every Thursday evening throughout the summer for 15 years or so, Nick could be found in the bottom corner of the cricket ground in the village, encouraging 6 and 7-year-old children and bubbling over with excitement when a four was hit or a catch taken (for which there would be a lollipop received after the session). Nick will be sorely missed by many members, but the dynasty continues as his eldest son, Simon, has taken over coaching the youngsters in the village with the same enthusiasm of his father some 30 years previously. Most of the club’s coaches and many of our 1st XI were coached by Nick as youngsters and three of his grandsons are now amongst the junior members, through them and through all the children involved with the club Nick’s legacy will continue. 37
