AROUND THE VILLAGES Penn Patient Participation Group Last autumn’s three flu clinics were well attended; 535 patients at the Penn Surgery clinic in October, 528 patients at the Simpson Centre clinic in September and 551 patients at the November clinic. It was pleasing that so many people chose to have their vaccinations at Penn Surgery and The Simpson Centre. However, at busy times some patients had to queue and this resulted in some traffic congestion at times, despite the best efforts of the clinicians, receptionists and PPG volunteers. The Patient Participation Group and the surgeries have listened to patient feedback. The PPG is researching how other GP practices conduct their flu vaccination programmes and will assist the practice in developing a new model of flu clinic for this autumn’s vaccination programme. Super Fun Run Book the day for Sunday 16th June, its Fathers Day again, so what a way to treat Pa! We are already planning, and are making arrangements to introduce Chip Timing to the Fun Run as well as the Penn7. We hope this will make our lives easier in logistically dealing with all the runners, and establishing the results, with the help of EMIT-UK. With this in mind, we aim to encourage pre event booking online, full details will be circulated in the next couple of weeks, and we would ask all intending participants to use this facility, especially as it will be cheaper to pre book rather than pay on the day!!! Last December, after Carols on the Common, www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice February/March 2019 we hosted our mulled wine and mice pie evening, with thanks to Eddie and the Sports & Social Club for their hospitality, during which we presented to our 2018 charities, the funds raised by your kind participation. Sparkles were unable to attend due to various circumstances, but we are happy to be able to donate to them £500. Charlies Footsteps were represented by Tim Oliver, who is pictured receiving a nice big cheque! You will see the amount on the cheque is £8,000, BUT, between printing and presenting, further sponsorship monies arrived, so we were actually able to present, on your behalf the amazing total of £9,000.00, which will go a long way to helping Charlie in the future when he is strong enough to undergo the various operations which we all hope will enable him to have an independent life. For 2019 our nominated Charity is The Chilterns MS Centre, which is based in Wendover, but reaches out to patients across the district including valuable support in P&TG. We always value volunteer support so if you can assist us in any way over the coming months, please contact me. Ian Barnet, imb@talktalk. net, 01494 816351 Spring Watch on The Common 2019 The third annual spring survey of our feathered friends to be found on the common will commence at the beginning of April. The unseasonably warm weather during December and January has seen a frenzy of activity in the hedge rows. As I prepare to join in the RSPB 5
