<strong>2019</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> <strong>Association</strong> Annual Convention<br />
August <strong>2019</strong>: ASNA District 1 hosted a CE event “Healthy Nurse 2020”. Topics included nutrition,<br />
avoiding burnout, de-escalation techniques, work related injuries, & obesity. The event was also offered<br />
to undergraduate nursing students for only $5. A district meeting followed the CE event and focused on<br />
preparing for convention.<br />

Membership and Recruitment: District 2 Membership Meetings are held every other month according to our<br />
published Calendar of events. We alternate between face-to-face and Conference Calls. The BOD meets prior to<br />
the Membership Meetings and are open to any members who would like to attend.<br />
The District Vice President, Dr. Chris Forbes is Chair of the District’s Membership Committee and in on the <strong>State</strong><br />
Membership Committee. Dr. Forbes has established a report with several local Schools of Nursing beginning with<br />
his employer. As President, Dr. Bodin assists with recruitment. At this time, District 2 is down a few members from<br />
prior years, but we expect to gain as a result of current efforts.<br />
Scholarships: District 2 continues to sponsor fundraisers to fund scholarships. In 2018, we sponsored four<br />
scholarships. We are holding scholarships for <strong>2019</strong> in hopes of being able to continue in the trend we have<br />
established. Scholarships are based on established criteria and are awarded based on monies available in our<br />
separate scholarship fund. We are continuing to support the Leadership Academy by sponsoring a deserving<br />
member each year. We have found that our LA graduates continue to demonstrate the objectives of the academy.<br />
Fundraisers for <strong>2019</strong>: Belk Charity Day ticket sales, Pottery Grill gift card sales, restaurant fundraisers, and<br />
donations.<br />
Continuing Education (CE) Days: District 2 continues to plan and coordinate one or two CE activities for our<br />
district nurses. The Spring <strong>2019</strong> CE Day was focused again on the Healthy Nurse: The Art and Joy of Nursing.<br />
Community Service Projects: District 2 members are proud to be a part of the community and continue to<br />
contribute to local efforts to promote health. In addition to joining health related initiatives on an annual basis,<br />
members volunteer at the Tuscaloosa Soup Kitchen in the Fall where we prepare and serve meals.<br />
Social Media: District 2 continues to have an active Facebook Page and uses a Wiki for communication. Our<br />
Quarterly Newsletter continues to be well-received. It is sent to members via email and posted on our Web Page.<br />
<strong>Nurses</strong> Week Celebration: District 2 held a Reception for <strong>Nurses</strong> Week on May 9th, <strong>2019</strong> at East McFarland<br />
Baptist Church, in Tuscaloosa. Approximately 25 people were in attendance. The event was streamed live on<br />
Facebook Live. Citation of Excellence awards were presented to the following nurses:<br />
