ASNA Committee on Membership<br />
Linda Gibson-Young, PhD, CRNP, FAANP, ASNA Vice-President July, <strong>2019</strong><br />
ASNA Committee on Membership meets quarterly via Zoom – last meeting May <strong>2019</strong>. Meeting attendees<br />
include District Vice-Presidents and ad hoc members.<br />
This year, we examined the Committee on Membership responsibilities to:<br />
a. Explore thoughts to promote active membership.<br />
b. Disseminate materials to strengthen membership promotion and retention.<br />
c. Promote development of organizational leaders at the district and state level.<br />
Active participation from four of five districts. Working with team to identify best approach for meetings.<br />

Issues<br />
ASNA District-level experience is the hub for all<br />
nurses in this state<br />
Need to enhance community/collegiality among<br />
district members<br />
Need to inform students about ASNA District<br />
activities and ASNA membership benefits to<br />
overcome limited view of ASNA as benefit to<br />
professional role<br />
Membership and Retention<br />
Proposed actions:<br />
Increase awareness of nurses in each district<br />
regarding ASNA district contact persons, meeting<br />
times and places by: 1) word of mouth from<br />
members 2) District Facebook pages 3) market to<br />
students 4) improve communication with districts<br />
Highlight new district members<br />
1) Explore joint meetings between Districts and<br />
nursing students/faculty within each district 2)<br />
Inform students of District and <strong>State</strong> Facebook<br />
pages and resources<br />
2018 ASNA Leadership Academy project:<br />
discussed outcomes, observed videos<br />
produced by F. Richardson.<br />
<strong>2019</strong> Progress<br />
a. Identified top three reasons why ASNA/ANA benefits the nurse in <strong>Alabama</strong><br />
b. two-page ASNA/ANA Value Price Flyer created and distributed for mass email delivering to:<br />
i. Academic centers<br />
ii. Health centers<br />
c. Emailed all districts re: planned events – Each district has a communication liaison to work with Travis<br />
Parker (ASNA Communications).<br />
Current focus: to prepare goals for Fall <strong>2019</strong> prior to ASNA Fall Convention. Table to distribute information to<br />
members, consider mass marketing after convention<br />
This committee is appreciative of the hard work by the committee members plus all state and district membership.<br />
