COULD YOU BE A
PARK RUN VOLUNTEER?
by Zoe McGarry
With spring beckoning, the Volunteer Centre has
plenty of ‘outside’ opportunities for you to get
involved in such as gardening, conservation, being
an event steward or working with wildlife. If you
enjoy sport and like being outdoors volunteers are needed to help organise a
local weekly running event.
Parkrun is a national initiative to
encourage people of all abilities to
get active in pleasant surroundings.
To ensure the events take place
volunteers are required to help with the
organisation. The first Uckfield run will
soon take place. Uckfield Runners are
co-ordinating efforts to establish the
Parkrun locally.
The run will start at Uckfield Rugby
Club, continue around Buxted Park and
finish back at the Club.
A team of volunteers are required in a
range of roles. These include: recording
participants, marshaling, timing and
recording results as well as organising
the finish funnel. Training will be
provided and there will be a roster
system where volunteers can say which
days they are available.
ROTARY PRESIDENT'S
CHOSEN CHARITY
In common with many organisations the President of the
Uckfield Rotary Club has the opportunity to nominate a
charity to be supported during his period of office.
This year’s President, Martin Doyle,
has chosen the charity Amaze. It is a
remarkable Sussex based local charity
helping families of children and young
people with special educational needs
and disabilities.
It pursues a vision of a world where
families with children and young
people with special educational needs
and disabilities are valued, included
in their community and supported to
thrive and it seeks to achieve this by
providing information to parent carers
by Howard Dingwall
and supporting
them and their
children by
building resilience
and achieving positive outcomes.
The charity has made a significant
difference to many families since it was
founded 20 years ago.
The Club will be holding a Ball on 4th
May to raise further funds. It's open
to everyone, and you can find details
on the Uckfield Rotary Club Facebook
page.
