HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT 2 BLOKES
AND LITTER PICKERS?
Uckfield is incredibly lucky to have groups
and individuals who give up their time
to look after areas of Uckfield, clearing,
tidying and litter picking, two of these
individuals are known locally as Two
blokes with some litter pickers, these 2
gentlemen have worked tirelessly around
Uckfield, in March they were out again, this
time tackling some of the Uckfield bypass.
The section cleared was exactly 1 mile
long, north of the Copwood Roundabout, it
took them 3.5 hours to litter pick 21 sacks
of litter. Well done 2 men and their litter
pickers.
HOW DO YOU SEARCH SAFELY ONLINE?
East Sussex County Council have advised
that when using the internet with children
to search for images or when browsing, to
use 'Kiddle' instead of Google. 'Kiddle' is a
child-specific search engine supported by
Google, which prevents the appearance of
things that are not suitable for them.
DON’T GET TRAPPED. BY
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Gillian Guy The CEO of Citizens Advice
recently provided comment for the Mail
on Sunday explaining that Citizens Advice
sees “hundreds of people every year who
have lost money from being trapped in
subscriptions they don’t want and find
difficult to cancel.”
She continues that: “Laws surrounding
subscriptions need to be reformed
urgently to stop firms being able to take
advantage of their customers.” and that
the government needs to act urgently and
companies responsibly.
She states that continuous payment
authorities are a huge issue and
the laws around these need to be
tightened. Companies that offer
free trials should also have to seek
your permission before that trial
ends and they begin charging you.
POLICE DOG AND HANDLER
CLAIM NATIONAL AWARD AT
CRUFTS
A Sussex Police dog handler and
his canine counterpart have been
recognised for their heroics with a
national award.
PC Tom Mills and PD Darcey,
his German Shepherd, are the
worthy winners of this year’s NPCC
Police Dog Team Operational or
Humanitarian Action of the Year
award.
In October last year, South East
Coast Ambulance Service required
Sussex Police’s assistance, having
been called by a man who had
stated in no uncertain terms that
he intended to take his own life in
a local park in Brighton.
Had it not been for the swift
actions of PC Mills and the quick
location of the missing man by PD
Darcey, allowing medical aid to be
given very quickly, the outcome
would almost certainly have been a
loss of life. Instead, after a spell in
an induced coma, the man went on
to make a full recovery.
The award was presented at Crufts
on Sunday 10 March and was
televised on Channel 4.
