WELL FIRST THINGS FIRST:<br />
Being a busy mum, worker and having family<br />
in various parts of the country, getting rid of my<br />
car was maybe a step too far. Thinking about<br />
the journeys we’re making, however, was a little<br />
more realistic. Could that quick trip out to grab<br />
that forgotten item be a scoot and chat with the<br />
kids? Or the school drive that could be a walk to<br />
school and bit of fresh air before a busy day at<br />
work/school.<br />
We often have lists, at home and at work that<br />
are must do and nice to do. That’s how I feel<br />
about this. Whilst I’d love to be completely self<br />
sufficient, it’s rather unlikely. And, a bit like<br />
faddy diets, I want to make changes I can stick<br />
to not ones that will last five minutes before I or<br />
my family get fed up and revert back, we’re not<br />
superheroes!<br />
I’m going to look at the small changes I’ve<br />
already made, and the ones I’d like to make and<br />
tell you how I get on, find out if the change is<br />
actually a change for the better or if it’s one that<br />
on the surface looks good when its in fact a false<br />
economy.<br />
The most important thing is the changes I make<br />
need to be realistic, to me, my family and my<br />
pocket! Well, unless anyone can point me in the<br />
direction of a money tree so that I can buy some<br />
chickens, and live like Barbara and Tom from<br />
the Good Life.<br />
Next month I’ll be looking at the some of the<br />
food changes I’ve made and will be checking<br />
with our lovely Zero Waste Maman, Claire<br />
Sumners, to check whether it was a good change,<br />
a sideways step or even a complete bad move.<br />
