Read the Directions!
By: Linda Bateman-Gomez / Timeless Beauty
Directions...who needs them? That seems to
be a very normal attitude for many of us,
including me.
What we often forget is that instructions are there for a reason and
often contain warnings so we do not end up with unintended results. I
found this out the hard way on a few different occasions.
My most recent regret came with (luckily) a non-permanent hair
color. It has no peroxide, no ammonia and I have used it for years.
While I have always seen the warnings about not using it on eyelashes
or eyebrows, I decided one day if I was really careful, I could try it on my
brows. What could go wrong? A lot.
It was a disaster! Not only was the gray in my eyebrows not covered

up, the skin on my brows held the color so much that I looked like
Groucho Marx for days!
This same product suggested testing a spot to check the color, but
again, I decided I didn’t need to test out what was just a slightly darker
color. Well, it does make a difference! I learned the hard way that you
should always do a test spot.
My hair resembled Morticia Addams for weeks. I washed and washed
but to no avail and naturally the gray was the first thing to show back
through. It was almost comical - every time I would wash it, my little
Granddaughter would inform me, it was still black!
Testing new face creams or masks? Try a small area first and read
the labels.
Even the best creams may cause a reaction on your skin. Many of us
have allergies and would never suspect an ingredient we are allergic to
being in a product.
Bottom line: warnings and directions are usually there because there
are indeed things that can go wrong. It only takes a few minutes and
will be well worth not looking like part of the Addams family - like me!
