Goodbye,
Migraines
Do you suffer from
migraines and feel
like you no longer
get relief? There
may be a new solution.
A study using a
self-reporting app in
Canada has shown
that more than
50% of participants
who used medical
marijuana reported
significant relief of
their symptoms.
This is yet another
study that looks at
the effects of medical
marijuana as an
alternative solution to
opioids.
Brush For
Your Heart
Brushing your teeth is for more than just your oral
health. Through various studies, researchers have
found clues about pancreatic and esophageal cancer
risk from mouth bacteria, and some studies have
even linked poor dental hygiene with respiratory
problems. Now, researchers are finding additional
links between oral and cardiovascular health.
Regular, proper toothbrushing may keep heart failure
and specific arrhythmia at bay. Experts suggest
setting a timer or using an electric toothbrush with
one built in to be sure you’re brushing long enough.
A Bad Rise
This is one medical
rise physicians
we’re hoping wasn’t
going to happen.
Researchers found
that prediabetes has
risen 18% among
adolescents ages
12 to 18 and 24%
amount young adults
ages 19 to 34. These
numbers have continued
to grow over the
last decade, marking
a higher risk for Type
2 diabetes, heart disease,
and other conditions.
Prediabetes
is a condition wherein
blood sugar levels
are elevated, but
not high enough to
warrant a diagnosis
of Type 2 diabetes,
but enough to worry
doctors.
Literacy-boosting Pups
Having issues getting your child to read? A recent study showed kids who read aloud to their pets are more likely to read than those who do
not read aloud or to a pet. The study, conducted by University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus, examined the behavior of 17 children
from grades one to three while reading with and without a pooch. Researchers found kids spent more time reading and showed more persistence
when a dog was in the room, compared to reading alone or in front of other kids.
