Rob Werdann<br />
Assistant Coach<br />
Rob Werdann is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Bobcats, bringing eight seasons experience<br />
as an <strong>NBA</strong> assistant coach or scout to Charlotte. Werdann served as an assistant coach with the<br />
Golden State Warriors in 2010-11 after spending the previous six seasons with the New Orleans Hornets,<br />
where he served as an advance scout from 2004-2009 and as an assistant coach in 2009-10. He was also<br />
the Hornets Summer League head coach in 2009.<br />
Werdann began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the CBA’s Yakima Sun Kings in 2000-01<br />
before spending three seasons in the as an assistant coach for the Columbus Riverdragons of the <strong>NBA</strong><br />
D-League from 2001-04.<br />
Before entering coaching, Werdann played basketball professionally in the <strong>NBA</strong>, CBA and IBL for eight<br />
seasons. Originally drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 46th overall selection in the 1992 <strong>NBA</strong> Draft,<br />
Werdann appeared in 47 <strong>NBA</strong> games over three seasons with the Nuggets and the New Jersey Nets.<br />
He played collegiately at St. John’s University, where he remains the school’s career leader in blocked<br />
shots (181). Playing for Hall of Fame coach Lou Carnesecca, Werdann helped the school win the 1989 NIT<br />
Championship as a freshman and then made three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a Big<br />
East Championship and NCAA Regional Finals appearance as a junior in 1990-91.<br />
Werdann and his wife, Suzanne, have two sons, Jack and Max.<br />
Chris Whitney<br />
Director of Player Development<br />
Chris Whitney is in his second season with the Bobcats as Director of Player Development. In this role,<br />
the 11-year <strong>NBA</strong> veteran works with the team’s players to help them develop, improve and evolve their<br />
skills in all facets of the game.<br />
Whitney, who was initially selected by San Antonio with the 47th overall pick in the 1993 <strong>NBA</strong> Draft,<br />
played in 579 career <strong>NBA</strong> games for San Antonio, Washington, Denver and Orlando, averaging 6.5 points,<br />
2.8 assists and 1.4 rebounds. Eight of his 11 seasons came with the Bullets/Wizards, where he remains<br />
the team’s all-time career leader in free-throw percentage (.885) and ranks third all-time in three-point<br />
field goals (481).<br />
Whitney played collegiately at Clemson University from 1991-93, following two seasons at Lincoln<br />
Trail College in Robinson, Illinois, where he was named First Team NJCAA All-American in 1991. He is<br />
Clemson’s career leader in three-point field goals per game (2.88), while ranking second in steals per<br />
game (1.97), second in assists per game (6.10) and fifth in three-point percentage (.413). Despite playing<br />
only two seasons, Whitney ranks seventh among the school’s career leaders in three-point field goals<br />
(167) and ninth in career assists (354). He is one of just four players in school history with consecutive<br />
seasons of 80 or more three-point field goals.<br />
While playing with the Wizards, Whitney created the C-WHIT (Children with Hope in Tomorrow) Foundation<br />
to assist programs dedicated to helping children in Washington, DC, and his hometown of Hopkinsville,<br />
Kentucky. He was the runner-up for the <strong>NBA</strong>’s Sportsmanship Award in 2000-01.<br />
Whitney and his wife, Charlotta, were married on January 1, 2009.
