SEE THE ANCIENT CITY OF VOLUBILIS<br />

The excavated Berber city of Morocco, an<br />

ancient Roman settlement <strong>and</strong> a major<br />

trading centre; <strong>Vol</strong>ubilis is one of the wellpreserved<br />

ruins of its kind in the world.<br />

Though its relics remain unrestored <strong>and</strong> it is<br />

normally scarce of tourists one can find the<br />

city open in a way that allows engagement to<br />

come about. Those viewing the dilapidated<br />

structures can do so without the hindrance of<br />

large barriers <strong>and</strong> bustling crowds. One has<br />

the chance to familiarise themselves with the<br />

grainy steps of ancient quads <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong> in<br />

awe of tall <strong>and</strong> greying classical pillars.<br />

ROAM ABOUT KASBAH LES OUDAIAS<br />

Situated in Rabat, this Kasbah is in the oldest<br />

part of the city. Reminiscent of a medina, the<br />

serenity <strong>and</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idness of the narrow streets<br />

of white houses; make it perfect for roaming<br />

about. Its elevation offers magnificent views<br />

of the river Asif Mellah <strong>and</strong> its overflowing<br />

into the ocean. Within the citadel, one can<br />

pay a visit to royalty by viewing the Saadian<br />

Tombs. These are royal graves in chambers<br />

with ornate mosaic tiling <strong>and</strong> stucco- a treat<br />

for the eyes appreciating the decorous<br />

mastery of ancient Byzantine <strong>and</strong> Ottoman<br />
