One concern is the plethora of safety issues

that needs to be addressed expeditiously.

In addition, there are legal concerns in

conjunction with said safety issues that

need to be reiterated. I am president of Love

Thy Neighbor, which is a community-ba

sed safety organization here in Chesterfield

Township. Our mission is to improve

safety and tackle many other outstanding

issues that are plaguingour community.

My personal goal is to garner the support

needed from our elected officials for the

betterment of all in this community. The

quality of A life for our residents will improve

immensely once the road improvements

can be expedited, once there are more

public surveillance cameras, and once

we enforce the legalities/safety reasons of

cleaning up pet feces. We need to have our

road improvements expedited to decrease

vehicle and pedestrian accidents. Recently,

one of the members of our organization was

on her way to work but was forced to take

a different route than usual due to a vehicle

accident. While driving down the road, she hit

a huge pot-hole that was unavoidable. This

caused her to start her shift late because she

had to wait on a tow truck driver, have a new

tire installed, and then drive in heavy traffic

to get to her work. She received a verbal

warning due to there being a “no tardiness

policy” for attendance. There have been

many complaints given to us regarding

safety issues while out on the roads.

Another member of our organization

witnessed a pedestrian being struck

while riding his or her bike. The driver was

not paying attention, hit a pothole, and

lost control. My suggestion is that we

team up with the Michigan Department

of Transportation (MDOT) to develop

a plan of action in addition to their

“Five-Year Transportation Program” which

started in 1999. According to MDOT, that

plan “supports efforts to further bolster

Michigan’s position as a major player in

the global economy.” Also, “there are

specific transportation projects planned

for the next five years in each of MDOT’s

seven regions”

My community-based organization will donate

additional funding that has been set aside, to

improve safety on the roads. Other options

would be to create a GoFundMe account

to rally assistance from people all around

the country that are able to assist. We can

also host other fundraising to raise even

more money to assist in expediting the

process. Safety should not come at a price,

so we should do all that we can to speed

up the process to fix our roads. Another

way to speed up the safety process for our

residents is to add more public surveillance

cameras, so we can increase protection

and reduce crime in our neighborhood. We

as a community want to deter criminals

and set an example that we will not tolerate

crime in our neighborhood.

BUILDING, Gianna Modock (To Left)

“My process is to take a new angle, to find something that nobody else would really

look at. Do something new with something familiar. Art gave me hope and joy in my

darkest times, still does. I want to inspire someone else that even when everything

fails they can create something. Giving daily things, something you see every day a

new angle and prospective.”
