IRON MAN, Colin Crosby

“This work wasn’t created in a specific class,

however my major is Mechanical Engineering.

The drawing is related to my major because

in the comics and movies the iron man

suit went through the engineering design

process, which includes the following steps:

Define the Problem, Background Research,

Develop Solutions, Choose a Solution,

Develop a Prototype,Test the Solution,

Does the Solution Meet Requirements, and

Communicate Results. I drew the mark one

iron man suit from the first iron movie. The

Designer of the suit, Tony Stark, created

his own prototype and tested it out himself,

which he was able to succeed, and learn

from. I started my drawing by creating a

rough, base sketch of the movie scene.

I moved on to draw the intricate

lines and details. After that I started

shading the legs of the suit. I used a .5mm

mechanical pencil, shading stumps, an

electric eraser, and kneaded eraser.

I usually only draw in pencil like I did with

this drawing. When I finished the legs,

I moved on to the chest, and then the arms.

I chose to do the face last because this

way I could easily make it proportionate

with the rest of the drawing. When the suit

was finished, I shaded in the background.

I completed my work by signing it at the top

of the page. Overall this drawing probably

took me somewhere between twelve to

fourteen hours to complete, that were

broken up into five days.

Iron Man is my second favorite superhero;

next to Spiderman, so that was part of my

inspiration to draw this movie scene. The

second part is because ironman (Tony

Stark) recently died in the Marvel universe,

so this is not only a tribute to the superhero

I grew up with, but also to Robert Downey

Junior for playing such an exceptional role

in the MCU. I think I did really well with my

shading and fine details.

I spent a lot of time with my drawing and I'm

happy with how it turned out. Compared to

my other drawings, I’d say this is my favorite

one.”
