with an uninterrupted documentary record of the temperature<br />
along the supply chain. In the year under review the<br />
company developed a tailor-made concept that opens up a new<br />
dimension with regard to transparency in the transport of temperature-sensitive<br />
goods. This solution, which is unique in the<br />
industry, will shortly be ready for rollout.<br />
Aviation/Aerospace Logistics<br />
In the field of spare parts logistics and maintenance, <strong>Kuehne</strong> +<br />
<strong>Nagel</strong> gained new customers in <strong>2011</strong> and recorded a satisfactory<br />
growth in volume. The continuing trend towards outsourcing<br />
in the aerospace sector will provide the company with<br />
further opportunities for growth in the current business year.<br />
Hotel Logistics<br />
The hotel logistics segment offers turnkey logistics solutions to<br />
leading global hotel chains. In <strong>2011</strong>, <strong>Kuehne</strong> + <strong>Nagel</strong> managed<br />
numerous projects associated with hotel construction and renovation<br />
projects, and strengthened its position in this segment.<br />
Marine Logistics<br />
The experts in the marine logistics segment ensure a seamless<br />
operation of the spare parts supply chain for commercial ships.<br />

ing use of <strong>Kuehne</strong> + <strong>Nagel</strong>'s special know-how. In <strong>2011</strong>, <strong>Kuehne</strong> +<br />
<strong>Nagel</strong> expanded activities in this segment, and added a new<br />
ship management software to the portfolio.<br />
Process improvement and quality assurance<br />
In order to further improve the quality of service, investments<br />
were again made in the training and further education of the<br />
staff in the airfreight business unit. New software, which will be<br />
implemented worldwide in 2012 will increase efficiency by<br />
process optimisation and standardisation. The airfreight business<br />
unit’s improved operational result in <strong>2011</strong> reflects the<br />
increases in productivity and strict management of costs.<br />
Outlook for 2012<br />
The forecasts for the global airfreight market in 2012 are not<br />
very encouraging. A further decline in demand is expected, particularly<br />
in the first half of the current business year. The<br />
increase in capacity – new cargo aircraft are ready for delivery<br />
to the airlines – will also not ease the situation.<br />
<strong>Kuehne</strong> + <strong>Nagel</strong> is facing up to these challenges and again aims<br />
to grow at a faster rate than the market. The company is concentrating<br />
on efficiency and operational excellence and increasing<br />
its efforts to market its portfolio of high value-added airfreight<br />
