• Maths GCSE at grade 3 (D) or above.<br />

• English GCSE at grade 3 (D) or above.<br />

• An interest in becoming a Computing professional.<br />

About the course<br />

This one-year full-<strong>time</strong> study programme will help<br />

you prepare to study the T Levels in 20<strong>22</strong>. You will<br />

learn about how professionals work on projects,<br />

including the different roles and responsibilities.<br />

You will then have the chance to gain experience<br />

as a team. member on several projects relevant to<br />

your chosen career route of either Digital, Finance &<br />

Accounting, or Business & Administration.<br />

Within each project team, you will learn about<br />

processes - from being set your brief by an<br />

employer and identifying the problem through to<br />

implementation and review. You will learn how to<br />

plan your work to ensure you manage your <strong>time</strong><br />

effectively. You will also have regular reviews with<br />

your employer and your team to ensure you remain<br />

on track with your project work and also develop<br />

your confidence and professional skills. Maths and<br />

English skills are key to a career in all of these areas,<br />

so resitting your maths and English GCSE to achieve<br />

the required level will be critical to this programme.<br />

Industry placement<br />

You will also have a substantial work placement to<br />

prepare you for your future.<br />

Your future<br />

On successful completion of the programme,<br />

you could progress to one of the Level 3 Digital T<br />

Levels, a Finance & Accounting T Level, a Business<br />

& Administration T level, an Apprenticeship or an<br />

alternative Level 3 course at <strong>Shipley</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.<br />

• Maths GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above.<br />

• English GCSE must be at least grade 3 (D).<br />

• You will have an initial assessment to<br />

demonstrate your interest and skills in<br />

programming.<br />

About the course<br />

You will study how programming is used in business<br />

and industry, focusing on security and emerging<br />

technological trends. Once you have learnt how to<br />

design software solutions and program in various<br />

programming languages, you will then design a<br />

digital solution for a project set by an employer.<br />

Throughout this project you will use your skills to<br />

analyse the problem and then design, implement<br />

and test software to provide a working solution. You<br />

will also learn how to change, maintain and support<br />

software. You will learn how to create software<br />

in social and collaborative environments and how<br />

to discover, evaluate and apply reliable sources of<br />

knowledge. We also show you how to apply ethical<br />

principles during this process and how to manage<br />

risk, in line with legal and regulatory requirements.<br />

Industry placement<br />

You will also have 45-60 days in an external industry<br />

placement with an employer, which will ensure that<br />

you develop and deepen your technical knowledge<br />

and skills, as well as behaviours appropriate for a<br />

professional Programmer.<br />

Your future<br />

The employer who provides your industry placement<br />

may offer you work opportunities or alternatively a<br />

reference. This will help you secure a university place,<br />

employment or an Apprenticeship.<br />
