Entry requirements<br />
• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English<br />
& maths on entry.<br />
• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />
at the start of the course.<br />
• A keen interest in the education and welfare of<br />
children.<br />
About the course<br />
Focussing on children’s education from birth to<br />
19 years old, you study all aspects of children’s<br />
development, such as their behaviour, the support of<br />
their education including the Early Years Foundation<br />
Stage, and the National Curriculum. You will learn the<br />
principles of observation, recording and assessing<br />
development to ensure children thrive. Other<br />
topics include the principles of Equality & Diversity,<br />
legislation, the legal & moral rights of children and<br />
the implementation of nondiscriminatory practices.<br />
You will learn about working with parents, agencies,<br />
SEND and the safeguarding of children to promote<br />
their welfare. You will also learn about proficiency in<br />
language and how to support children with English<br />
as an additional language. As a Childcare practitioner,<br />
you must be committed to reflective practice to<br />
improve your own professional development and<br />
also have an understanding of educational theory.<br />
Industry placement<br />
You will have a placement for 45-60 days to develop<br />
your practical and technical skills. Regular progress<br />
reviews and meetings will ensure you are getting the<br />
best experience possible.<br />

Science concepts - Human anatomy & physiology<br />
and diseases & disorders; the Healthcare sector,<br />
providing person-centered care; Health & Wellbeing;<br />
and managing personal information.<br />
Industry placement<br />
