Apprenticeships
Would you like to earn while you learn?
As an apprentice, you will be employed in a real job
while gaining valuable skills and knowledge in a
specific job role. This means you have the opportunity
of starting your career working in your chosen area
and gaining the skills, knowledge and behaviours
which employers look for. Your training will be a
blend of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job
training and the opportunity to practise new skills in
a real work environment.
What you need to know:
• Anyone aged 16+ can apply for an apprenticeship.
• You will be employed and paid directly by a
company while studying for your qualification.
• Most apprentices will be in work for four days plus
one day at College each week.
• Your apprenticeship can take between one and
two years to complete.
• The minimum salary is currently £4.15 per hour
changing to £4.30 in April 2021, however, many
employers pay significantly more.
• A Level 3 Apprenticeship is equivalent to 2-3 A
Levels which can lead to, or be an alternative to,
university.
Traineeships
An alternative route to employment
Are you 16-24 but still not sure what is right for you?
We know it is not always easy to find the right role
for you, especially when you have little or no work
experience and few qualifications. Traineeships help
bridge the gap between the skills that you have and
those that employers need.
Still not sure?
Think about what subjects you enjoy, your
interests or what inspires you. Where would
you like college to take you - a job or university?
Talk to careers advisors, friends and family too.
