Art & Design BTEC Level 2<br />

Course length: 1 year | Code: 4016<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D), to include English. Maths<br />

must be at grade 2 (E) or above.<br />

or<br />

A full Level 1 at Pass grade, plus a GCSE grade 3<br />

(D) or above in English.<br />

• A portfolio of artwork or sketch books that<br />

demonstrates your interest in the subject.<br />

• You will have an interview and further assessment<br />

to check the course is right for you.<br />

About the course<br />

If you enjoy being creative, you will have the<br />

opportunity to produce a wide range of art and<br />

design work in our art studio, including 2D and 3D<br />

artwork. You’ll explore a broad range of materials,<br />

techniques and processes including digital<br />

photography, painting, printmaking, graphic design,<br />

wirework, textiles and surface pattern. Working on<br />

your project brief, you build up a portfolio - essential<br />

for job applications or further study at Level 3. Other<br />

project work will include live briefs from employers<br />

and community organisations.<br />

You will also visit galleries and exhibitions, (you may<br />

be required to contribute towards the cost of these),<br />

to help you gain useful insights for showcasing<br />

your work at the End of Year Exhibition. Overall,<br />

this course will help you develop as an Art & Design<br />

Practitioner.<br />

Your future<br />

On successful completion of the course, you could<br />

progress to the Art & Design BTEC Level 3 or use<br />

the skills and experience you have gained to find<br />

employment in industries such as Art, Design or<br />

Fashion.<br />

Art & Design Practice<br />

BTEC Level 3<br />

Course length: 2 years | Code: 4018<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English<br />

& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both<br />

subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).<br />

or<br />

A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &<br />

English grades equivalent to those stated above.<br />

Students with grade 3 (D) in either English or maths will be<br />

expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.<br />

• A keen interest in art, design and creativity and a<br />

portfolio of artwork or sketch books.<br />

About the course<br />

These new creative practice qualifications have<br />

been developed alongside experts from the creative<br />

industries and focus on practical learning.<br />

You will study freely across and within a range of<br />

technical skills areas which reflect current industry<br />

practice, such as image and mark, space and form,<br />

moving image and lens, text and image.<br />

In year one, you will explore and develop art & design<br />

skills followed by a creative project working to a<br />

brief. In year two, you will gain an understanding of<br />

industry, employment roles and higher education<br />

routes. This will be followed by responding to an<br />

industry relevant brief carried out from concept to<br />

resolution. .<br />

You will be assessed on your practical portfolios of<br />

work. The same five assessment criteria are used<br />

throughout the qualification and these are problem<br />

solving, informing ideas, technical skills, professional<br />

practice and communication.<br />

Your future<br />

After the qualification, you will be able to go on to a<br />

broad range of higher education, apprenticeships and<br />

employment roles.<br />
