Variations on Light and Shadow<br />
Although the streets of Kyoto are a typical gridiron pattern, unique<br />
spatial conditions, derived from the machiya or Japanese-style<br />
townhouses and small alleyways, are found all over the city. All of<br />
these spatial features and variations of light and shadow are nestled<br />
into the city’s framework and lead us to lighting environments only<br />
found in Kyoto. <br />

Nihonbashi and Sumida Rivers, Vistas of Water, Bridges, and Light<br />
In the heart of Tokyo, historical Nihonbashi River and Sumida<br />
River wind amongst vistas of water, bridges, and light. Nihonbashi<br />
River lies hidden under a system of highway overpasses and the<br />
Sumida River is wide and commanding with many signature bridges.<br />
The night reveals beautiful water and lightscapes surrounding the<br />
bridges and shores as the rivers cut through the city.
