The FMG Young Farmer of<br />

the Year competitions will be<br />

set up in three areas around<br />

the grounds throughout the<br />

day.<br />

Competitors in the Aorangi<br />

<strong>2021</strong> regional final of FMG<br />

Young Farmer of the Year,<br />

the Junior Young Farmer of<br />

the Year and the AgriKids<br />

competitions will be<br />

competing and give the wider<br />

community achance to see<br />

some of the work farmers do<br />

in action.<br />

The competitions start on<br />

the grounds from 7am and<br />

continue in stages throughout<br />

the day with the agri sports<br />

head to head challenge at<br />

1pm. The Young Farmer of<br />

the Year regional final<br />

continues at the evening event<br />

at the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall,<br />

in Methven.<br />

The show layout has<br />

changed from past years most<br />

notably for the public, the car<br />

park has moved from the<br />

south side of the grounds to<br />

the north side.<br />

But inside there are still the<br />

same exciting opportunities<br />

to thrill young and old alike.<br />

Competitions will be<br />

fiercely contested in<br />

equestrian events (from at<br />

8am), sheep dog trials (from<br />

8.30am), and judging gets<br />

under way with sheep and<br />

wool (9.30am), children’s pets,<br />

dancing, dairy goats, poultry,<br />

farm produce, and home<br />

industries (from 10am) and<br />

sheep –champion of<br />

champions (12pm). The<br />

shearing and wood chopping<br />

competitions get under way<br />

from 10.30am.<br />

The wine and food area also<br />

opens at 10.30am.<br />

In the home industries<br />

pavilion there will be baking,<br />

knitting, photography, art,<br />

vegetables and floral delight<br />

and the annual gift lamb<br />

auction, with lambs donated<br />

by local farmers, gets under<br />

way at 2.15pm, Celtic band<br />

Boru will play in the wine and<br />

food area (from <strong>11</strong>.30am) and<br />

there will be free face<br />

painting and balloon twisting<br />

in the sideshow area between<br />

10am and 2pm.<br />

Always guaranteed to<br />

delight is the popular sheep<br />

colouring competition (1pm),<br />

where kids get in asheep pen<br />

to colour in asheep, or avisit<br />

to the animal shed where<br />

children can get up close to a<br />

variety of animals.<br />

There are also sideshow<br />

amusements and in the main<br />

ring official speeches will<br />

begin at 1.30pm with the<br />

Grand Parade (1.45pm)<br />

featuring the <strong>Ashburton</strong> Pipe<br />

Band followed by alolly<br />

scramble.<br />

The Dog Trial Run­Off final<br />

(3pm), will be held in the<br />

paddock next to the vintage<br />

machinery and the Vintage<br />

Auction will be at 4pm.<br />

The annual tug of war<br />

competition will be at the<br />

bottom end of the main ring<br />

will also be at 4pm. It will be<br />

followed by aSustainable<br />

Water Sheaf Tossing at<br />

4.30pm and the wood<br />

chopping prize giving (5pm)<br />

will wrap up the show.<br />
