Frustrations
By: Gayla Kalp / Life is Laughter
The other day, I was so frustrated. My
computer was “on the fritz” my printer
died, and I missed an important phone call.
AAAAAAHHHHGGGG!
I gave myself a break with a chocolate treat (straight vodka would
have been better) and watched a TV program on “Positive Thinking in
Daily Life.” Through the whole program, I thought positive thinking is
great if you don’t have frustrations that drive you nuts every day.
It got me to thinking about daily frustrations that I have avoided
by trying my own positive thinking mantra. Here are a few of my own
favorites:
1.Never trust an electrician with no eyebrows.
2.What happened to the garden hose as the official sports drink?
3.Brain, hair and skin cells die constantly, but freaking fat cells have
eternal life!
4. During a meeting, blow on the booze in your coffee mug to
convince the rest of the attendees that it is tea.
5. When falling asleep during the meeting, after awakening, look up
and say loudly, “Amen.”
6. If you stir coconut oil into your kale, it makes it easier to scrape
it into the trash.
7. I don’t need to be told “Don’t try this at home” because I am not
a total idiot!!
So, think about your frustrations and have a POSITIVE month.!
Gordie Brown Presents
“Lasting Impressions”
By: Dianne Davis / That’s Entertainment
Gordie Brown is a favorite of mine. So I was
delighted to check out his new show at the Golden
Nugget.
Gordie is a multi-talented performer - a singer, an impressionist, a
musician, and a comedian. He packs 60 plus impressions into his fastpaced
act. Each time I attend his show, I am treated to new impressions
with wonderful comedic elements.
This time there was Pearl Jam and lyrics from Dr. Fauci. Hootie and the
Blowfish were represented. The Viagra joke - as done by Paul Simon this
time finds its way into all his shows, but the audience loves it.
Gordie is working on his Biden and wonders, “Too soon?” But he ties
Biden to his Henry Fonda/Kate Hepburn Golden Pond routine.
An aging Tom Jones routine brings roaring laughter from the crowd.
And there is Neal Diamond’s rendition of “Except for Porn.” At various
times Gordie picks up the guitar to add to his lyrics and characterizations.
The audience, a mixed of first timers and repeaters, loved his bits. Sam
Smith with a lisp, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Stewart, Garth Brooks, Billy Ray
Cyrus – they all turn up with some pretty darned creative dialogue of new
lyrics to their songs.
Other favorites were Barry Manilow, Elvis Presley, Joe Cocker. Mike
Tyson and the ear incident is hilarious. Then the cast of characters
auditioning for the role of Batman - Ray Romano, Charley Sheen, Owen
Wilson, Jackie Mason, and Robin Williams.
What would a Gordie Brown show be without Willie Nelson singing “Of
all the joints I’ve smoked before.” What makes Gordie an enduring Las
Vegas performer is the combination of energy, writing and singing lyrics,
gesturing and the way his face changes right into the characters.
Gordie is animated, creative, unique and connects with his audience.
And the show is just down home FUN. Go see Gordie Brown at the Golden
Nugget on Thursday or Saturday nights at 7:30 pm.
