Do Your Clothes Still Fit?
By: Heather Latimer / Heather’s Self-Help Tips
During a year of being homebound you’ve
possibly put on weight and, maybe, lost
height too. Visiting nurses told me many stay-athomes
wear sweat or stretch pants, or keep their PJ’s on every day, and
ne’er give a thought to what they’ll wear when they want to gussy up
and go out.
What about you? Have you checked to see if
your normal attire still fits?
When a juicy opportunity to venture out
occurs, you might not have sufficient time to
buy something new, employ a tailor, or make
speedy alterations.
A professional seamstress said she measured the customer’s height,
shortened pants’ legs as necessary and neatly machined the edges.
However, ladies from a local sewing club created less pricey solutions.
Some cut off the upper part of a maxi skirt to add inches around the
middle, made a slot at the waistline and threaded elastic through it.
Voila! A knee-length style.
Another confessed she increased the width of a new dress to
accommodate her belly by cutting along a side-seam of the skirt-part,
then adding an attractive top to hide the gap.
A 94 year old laughed. “My granddaughter chopped three inches off
the length of my jeans and frayed the edges. When I was displeased she
claimed, “This is the distressed-jean style lots of people are wearing.
You’ll look cool, Grannie.”
Right now! Check your wardrobe to avoid the moment when you’re
getting ready to re-enter the exciting outside world - and your clothes
won’t fit.
The Next Big Thing
By: BJ Killeen / Down the Road
Automotive manufacturers spend more time
looking for the next big icon than American
Idol judges. Although many new models are
introduced, few achieve superstar status.
Chevrolet has the Corvette, Mazda has the Miata, and Porsche has the
911, to name a few. Ford Motor Company has also done well creating
legendary vehicles, most notably the Mustang and F-Series pickup.
For 2021, Ford had brought back a legendary vehicle that is enjoying
a second round of mega success: the new Ford Bronco.
Lee Iacocca gave the go-ahead to produce the original Bronco in
1963 (he also was the decision maker behind Mustang), filling a gap
in the marketplace for people looking to have fun while exploring
the outdoors. The original Bronco, introduced in 1965 (shortly after
Mustang) was available in three versions: wagon, utility vehicle, and
roadster.
Bronco enthusiasts have been fans of these early SUVs for decades,
and when Ford announced the Bronco’s return, the buzz was louder
than a hornet’s nest.
This spring, the Bronco Sport appeared in showrooms, soon to be
followed by the larger, more off-road-focused Bronco. And although
there have been production woes due to the chip shortage that’s
affecting all manufacturers, the excitement over the Bronco family of
vehicles is palpable.
There are many different models to choose from, including a 4-door
Bronco, as well as a plethora of ways to customize them with Ford
accessories that range from lifestyle to serious off-roading.
The biggest part of the new Bronco is Bronco Off-Roadeo, an offroading
experience designed to help Bronco buyers learn how to use
their Broncos in the wild. Bronco Off-Roadeos will be located in Texas,
Nevada, Utah, and an as-yet-unnamed Northeast location.
The Texas event is located at the giant Grey Wolf Ranch in Horseshoe
Bay and is included with the purchase of any Bronco or Bronco Sport
First Edition or Badlands models. It’s a 1.5-day experience and will be
beneficial to avid off-roaders as well as first-timers.
