EMPTINESS<br />
They say nothing in the known Universe is<br />
totally void of matter, but there are places<br />
(look no further than our own Planet) that<br />
give me the appearance of being ‘empty’,<br />
e.g., The Sahara Desert, Easter Isl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
the Arctic Ice Cap (if this last does not melt<br />
away to nothing - or even if it does!).<br />
One such ‘appearance of being empty’<br />
can be viewed from a ship sailing from<br />
Greece to Italy....<br />
as the ship glided smoothly along the<br />
Albanian Coast, heading from Patras to<br />
Venice, we were intrigued by a stretch<br />
of the Coast that appeared to be totally<br />
empty of civilization - no seaside towns<br />
nestling in sheltered inlets, no hamlets<br />
crowning the high mountain ridges<br />
brooding over the sea, no fishing or other<br />
vessels in our vicinity, no visible signs of<br />
life.<br />
There was just one break in this empty<br />
panorama - the distant glimpse of a cluster<br />
of buildings close by the sea, wedged into<br />
a narrow ravine, a break in the mountain<br />
chain. But, other than that, nothing -<br />
emptiness !<br />
The Spinning Wheel<br />

It keeps turning <strong>and</strong> turning,<br />
all control spurning, cutting <strong>and</strong> burning<br />
while I am learning.... to follow its lead,<br />
not to desire or need to feed on<br />
knowledge or wisdom,<br />
power or greed,<br />
youth or maturity,<br />
love or greed.<br />
Do any of these things matter?<br />
In the end, the Wheel will shatter all<br />
<strong>and</strong> scatter it around,<br />
laying down new ground from which<br />
New Life will abound !
