. AMC Hornet X Hatchback (1974) In the Man with<br />

the Golden Gun. Mary Goodnight gets herself<br />

kidnapped by Scaramanga. With Scaramanga almost<br />

out of sight, Bond spots a car dealership, <strong>and</strong> steals an<br />

AMC Hornet, driving it right out through the showroom<br />

window. Live <strong>and</strong> Let Die’s Sheriff J.W. Pepper returns<br />

as a Bangkok tourist, who just so happened to be sitting<br />

in the passenger seat of the Hornet. The pair chase<br />

Scaramanga, with Pepper adding some comic relief to<br />

the tense action scene.<br />

. Esprit 9. S1. The Spy Who Loved Me 1977. The<br />

producers wanted to out-do themselves <strong>and</strong> create<br />

the most spectacular film of the series. They<br />

equipped Bond with a white Lotus<br />

Esprit S1 in a chase sequence<br />

covering l<strong>and</strong>, air <strong>and</strong> water.<br />

Bond is chased on<br />

l<strong>and</strong> by a motorbike<br />

equipped with a<br />

jet-propulsion<br />

s i d e c a r<br />

rocket. After<br />

eliminating<br />

their l<strong>and</strong><br />

problems,<br />

they are<br />

attacked<br />

from the<br />

air by a<br />

helicopter.<br />

Unable to<br />

lose the<br />

tail, Bond<br />

drives off<br />

the edge of a<br />

peer. The Lotus<br />

transforms into a<br />

mini submarine, the<br />

enemy brings on their<br />

underwater assault. The<br />

Lotus h<strong>and</strong>les them with ease<br />

<strong>and</strong> Bond transforms the vehicle<br />

back to a car <strong>and</strong> drives out of the sea onto<br />

a beach of unsuspecting tourists.<br />

. Essex Turbo (1981) . For Your Eyes Only<br />

10 (1981) Following the well received appearance in<br />

The Spy Who Loved Me, Lotus returned for a second <strong>and</strong><br />

final time in For Your Eyes Only, with an upgraded Lotus<br />

Esprit Turbo. Bond drives the Esprit to the hideout but<br />

when it comes time to escape, the car meets with an ill<br />

fate.<br />

Citroën 2CV. (1981) After his Lotus self-destructs,<br />

11 Bond is forced to escape in a Citroën 2CV, not quite<br />

the calibre of car Bond is used to. Some scenes were<br />

sped up, most noticeably during a backwards-forward<br />

stunt that the 2CV struggled to pull off. However, the<br />

scene was intended to be as humorous as it was tense.<br />

Bajaj RE (1983), Octopussy. The Bajaj RE is a<br />

12 model of auto rickshaw, also known as a Tuk Tuk<br />

taxi, that appeared in Octopussy. Bond leaves in a taxi<br />

with ally agent Vijay. He soon spots Khan’s henchman in<br />

the taxi behind, armed with a muzzled shotgun. Bond<br />

tells Vijay “we’ve got company”, to which Vijay replies<br />

“No problem, this is a company car.” It is outfitted with a<br />

powerful engine by Q-branch.<br />
