suitable for children under 8
years without adult supervision
Thanks to funding

Rotherham Creative
Learning Centre has
been able to provide
free engagement
activities to adults in
Rotherham for the last
four years, as well as
working with schools
and communities to
offer family learning.
They have worked with
over 4,000 families or adults
in the town in one way or
another, through in-person
workshops or online classes
during lockdowns in the
pandemic. While you can
join in irrespective of your
circumstances, so long as
you’re aged 19 or over, some
of the people who take part are
elderly, vulnerable or isolated.
But all will agree that being
able to get out of the house and
meet new people in a positive
environment has helped
improve their wellbeing.
As we begin 2022, all
classes are once again
in-person, based at their
Rawmarsh centre, with more
and more courses being added
throughout the year.

You will need:
2.5” Pom Pom maker
Cuddly Supersoft knitting yarn
in white
Black Fimo clay
Keyring or handbag finding
Red ribbon
White pen
Strong glue or glue gun
Scissors and craft knife
Darning needle
Method:
Wind the Pom Pom maker
with wool until it is full on both
sides. Cut open with scissors and
tie off securely with a piece of
spare wool.
For the legs, roll two pieces of
Fimo into two-inch cylinders. Place
side by side to ensure they are of
an even length then cut in half.
For the head, start by rolling a
ball then flattening. For the ears
roll a small cylinder and cut in half.
Place on either side of the head
and press firmly.
Transfer all the clay pieces to a
small baking tray lined with baking
parchment. Place in the oven at
130 degrees for 10-15 minutes
then remove from the oven to cool.
Take a five-inch piece of red
ribbon and thread through a
darning needle at one end and tie
a knot at the other. Place a small
amount of glue on the knot before
sewing through the pom pom.
Attach to the keyring at the top
using either glue or by sewing.
Glue each of the legs in place
at the bottom pressing the wool
against each leg. Check the
placement by hanging. Now glue
the head onto the front.
Glue a small amount of wool
to the top of the head to create a
fringe and draw on the eyes with a
white pen.
Finish by attaching another
length of ribbon with your
message and a small bow above
the head.
Your Valentine’s gift is now
complete.
