Eleven mothers from the Pequeño Valiente Cancer Foundation
take “A day of respite” at the Lopesan Villa del Conde hotel
The Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso
Hotel was the chosen venue for eleven
mothers from the Canary Pequeño Valiente
Children with Cancer Foundation, to enjoy
a special and different kind of day, in the
unique surroundings offered by this emblematic
property in the exclusive Meloneras
area, in the south of Gran Canaria. The
initiative is part of the project called "A day
of respite", which was created with the intention
of offering a relaxed and family environment,
in which the parents of a child
suffering from cancer can have the opportunity
to disconnect from the tough routine
they have to face every day.
Ably accompanied by social worker Myriam
López, and the Pequeño Valiente psychologist,
Olga Díez, the protagonists of this
original day out, benefitting from the collaboration
of Lopesan Hotel Group, arrived
at mid-morning at the doors of the Lopesan
Villa del Conde, full of enthusiasm and
excitement, looking forward to enjoying a
whole new experience. After the welcome
cocktail, the public relations team accompanied
them on a brief tour of the main areas
of the hotel, ending in the solarium area
which was specially reserved for them.
After taking their first dip in one of the resort's
heated pools, it was time to relax and
soak up the sun while chatting, joking and
sharing stories. Some of the mothers who
took part in this day of respite confessed
that they had not been able to engage in
any social activity for several years, so they
were grateful to be able to share a fun
time together with others who were going
through the same situation as themselves.
The Lopesan Villa del Conde Day Pass included
an à la carte lunch in front of the
swimming pool on the terrace at the El
Alpendre Restaurant, topped off with delicious
strawberries with white chocolate,
which delighted the diners. The after-dinner
conversation lasted well into the afternoon
and, if only for a few hours, the mothers of
the Pequeño Valiente group managed to
forget the automatisms and daily habits
associated with the physical and emotional
care required by a child cancer patient,
from the moment they are diagnosed with
the disease.
The Pequeño Valiente Children with Cancer
Foundation was created in 2006, as an
Association, to try to improve the quality of
life of children with cancer in the Canary Islands,
while also influencing the wellbeing
of their parents. The activity carried out by
the Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso
is just one example of the numerous
actions that the Foundation undertakes
throughout the year, to provide parents
with an extra dose of positive energy to
help them take care of their loved ones.
