Los grancanarios conocemos bien la Villa de
Moya. Es nuestro bosque frondoso, bañado
por los vientos alisios y una humedad refrescante
que ha permitido que se mantenga una
de las reservas más importantes de bosque
de laurisilva en la Isla, los Tilos. Pero además,
de Moya son los suspiros y bizcochos que nos
miran con ojos golosos y a los que nadie en su
sano juicio puede negar un mordisquito.
The people of Gran Canaria know Villa de Moya
only too well. It is their leafy forest, bathed by the
trade winds and a refreshing humidity that has
enabled the region to preserve one of the most
important laurel forest reserves on the island,
Los Tilos. But it is also Moya's suspiros and other
sponge cakes that look at us with a glint in their
eye and which no one in their right mind can refuse
to take a bite of.
However, not so many people think of Moya as a
municipality with a coastline. Yet, to be honest, if
there is one place in Gran Canaria where visitors
can enjoy both the sea and the summit, it is the
Villa de Moya, a magical place that on the same
day allows them to dive into the blue waters that
bathe the north coast of our round island and,
minutes later, look out over the island's capital, Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria, from up on high. All this
is accompanied by the hospitality of the residents
of Mojácar, who are very proud and well aware of
the natural value of their municipality.
There are two essential places to visit along this
wonderful strip of coastline: El Roque and Los
Charcos de San Lorenzo.
El Roque
El Roque belongs to a time when every millimetre
of fertile land was farmed and houses were built
in impossible locations, where it was impossible to
cultivate. Visiting its streets is a real journey back
in time and an adventure that takes visitors physically
and psychologically into the sea.
Entering the narrow streets of El Roque is an experience
in itself. The walk is a short one and is accompanied
by the soundtrack of the sea roaring against
the rocks. It is one of the corners of the island where
you can feel the power of the ocean, just by listening,
with nothing to distract you. Coming to this spot
and taking in the sunset, in a foreground that is hard
to match, is a gift from the planet.
Los Charcos de San Lorenzo
El Roque
Two large, man-made natural swimming pools provide
visitors with all the pleasure of the ocean without
the risk of crashing waves. It is almost a mystical
experience to stand next to the waves, which break
just a few centimetres from your body, but with the
security of having your feet on the ground.
Seeing this little spot from the road makes you want
to pull over and stop. Its facilities and restaurants
make it a comfortable and welcoming place for the
elderly, while the presence of sand, something not
very common in this region, makes it attractive for
children.
The larger pool is 75 metres long and 45 metres wide
and its depth and the volcanic rock that accompanies
it in certain areas allow for headfirst dives, which
just for a few seconds break the inevitable peace and
quiet of this crystal clear and unforgettable spot.
Pero no son tantos los que piensan en Moya
como un municipio con costa y, seamos sinceros,
si existe un lugar en Gran Canaria en el
que se puede disfrutar tanto del mar como de
la cumbre, es la Villa de Moya, un lugar mágico
que el mismo día te permite sumergirte
en las azules aguas que bañan la costa norte
de nuestra isla redonda y, minutos después,
observar la capital insular, Las Palmas de Gran
Canaria, desde las alturas. Todo esto acompañado
por la hospitalidad de los moyenses,
muy orgullosos y buenos conocedores del valor
natural de su municipio.
En esa costa maravillosa, hay dos lugares que
son de obligada visita: El Roque y los Charcos
de San Lorenzo.
El Roque
El Roque pertenece a una época en la que se
trabajaba cada milímetro de tierra fértil y las
casas se construían en lugares imposibles, allí
donde no se podía cultivar. Visitar sus calles es
un auténtico viaje en el tiempo y una aventura
que se adentra física y psicológicamente en el
mar.
Adentrarse por las callejuelas de El Roque es
toda una experiencia. El paseo es corto y se
realiza acompasado por la banda sonora de
un mar que ruge contra las rocas. Es uno de
los rincones de la isla donde puedes sentir la
fuerza del océano, sólo con escuchar, sin nada
que nos distraiga. Llegar hasta ese lugar y poder
contemplar la puesta de sol, en un primer
plano difícilmente igualable, es un regalo del
planeta.
Los Charcos de San Lorenzo
Dos amplias piscinas naturales de grandes dimensiones
habilitadas por el hombre le regalarán
el placer oceánico sin riesgos de oleaje.
Es casi una experiencia mística situarse junto
a las olas, que rompen a escasos centímetros
de tu cuerpo, pero con la seguridad de tener
los pies en el suelo.
Ver este lugar desde la carretera obliga a detenerse.
Sus servicios y restaurantes hacen que,
para los más mayores, sea un lugar cómodo y
acogedor. La presencia de arena, algo no muy
habitual en esta comarca, refuerza los atractivos
infantiles.
La piscina mayor cuenta con 75 metros de largo
y 45 de ancho y su profundidad y la roca
volcánica que la acompaña en ciertas zonas
permiten los lanzamientos de cabeza, que
rompen por unos segundos el inevitable sosiego
que propicia este rincón cristalino e inolvidable.
