HANSA DAILY SMM NEWSWIRE The new »Malizia–Seaexplorer« christened After a stormy crossing from Lorient in France to Hamburg, Boris Herrmann‘s new racing yacht »Malizia-Seaexplorer« was christend in the Hafencity – at the second attempt, as the champagne bottle did not break on the bowsprit Germany‘s best-known ocean sailor and Team Malizia skipper Boris Herrmann arrived in the Hanseatic city by newly built racing yacht to celebrate the Malizia Ocean Festival. Shortly after the boat‘s arrival in the traditional ship harbour in the heart of Hamburg, the new boat »Malizia–Seaexplorer« was christened by 150 children in front of an audience of thousands. After leaving Brittany five days earlier, Boris Herrmann and his team sailed Malizia across the English Channel and then up the Elbe on Tuesday morning accompanied by a flotilla of almost 100 boats. As the flotilla, led by the racing yacht bearing the United Nations‘ distinctive Sustainable Development Goals on its sails, approached the iconic Elbphilharmonie, it was greeted by a water-splashing fireboat from the Hamburg Fire Brigade. At exactly 12.30 p.m., the Mahatma Gandhi Bridge of Sandtorhafen opened to let the 27-m-high IMOCA into the harbour. Shortly after, the »Malizia–Seaexplorer docked at the pontoon to the applause of a cheering crowd. Several thousand visitors had gathered along the entire length of the harbour, from the bridge to the Magellan Terraces, as well as on the pontoon. Immediately after arriving home in Hamburg, Boris Herrmann said: »Being here is a very unusual feeling, otherwise I walk here with my dog or along with my little daughter, and now there are so many people like I have never seen here before! Hamburg is the home port of the »Malizia– Seaexplorer«, and also my home port. As sailors we are a bit superstitious and a ship christening is Germany‘s best-known ocean sailor and Team Malizia skipper Boris Herrmann christened his new boat extremely important, so it was important for me to come to Hamburg for this.« Then, surrounded by about 150 children from local schools and sailing clubs, Team Malizia‘s partners and the audience, the countdown began and the children pulled the rope together to hurl a champagne bottle against the boat. When the bottle hit the bowsprit, however, it did not break, which made the team and the audience laugh.
