AFRICA • SOUTH AFRICA
Discover South Africa
The extraordinary natural beauty and
cultural diversity of South Africa often
surprises visitors. The Cape Provinces in
particular offer rich cultural delights with
their combination of Cape Malay cuisine
and world-class vintages from the vineyards
of the Winelands.
Wildlife abounds, with superb opportunities
for both land- and water-based whale
watching, along with self-drive or guided
‘Big Five’ safaris. For dramatic scenery and
diamond rush history, the Northern Cape
should not be missed. Alternatively, head up
the less-travelled west coast to Paternoster
and the Cedarberg mountains to explore
ancient Bushmen rock art.
Cape Town, South Africa
Cosmopolitan, relaxed and with a comfortable
Mediterranean climate, Cape Town is
sandwiched between Table Mountain and the
Atlantic Ocean, giving it one of the world’s most
recognised city locations. It offers a captivating
mix of modern living and old-world charm.
Take a guided walking tour to discover the
city’s street food, antique shops, art galleries
and heritage buildings. Join a boat trip to
UNESCO-listed Robben Island, home to Nelson
Mandela during his time as a political prisoner.
Wander around the vibrant Victoria & Alfred
Waterfront. Other excursions available to our
guests delve deeper into South Africa’s political
past and engage with the local communities.
Affluent Constantia Valley, now within Cape
Town’s suburbs, is South Africa’s oldest winemaking
area, but a little further afield you
will find the undulating valleys and towering
mountains of the Cape Winelands. Popular
destinations within this viticultural epicentre
include the university town of Stellenbosch, the
French Huguenot village of Franschhoek and
the Cape Dutch estates of Paarl. Here, you can
sample celebrated local wines, have lunch at a
vineyard or arrange to picnic beside one of the
pretty streams and lakes. For a whistle-stop
tour of several wineries, choose a scenic cycle
ride or board the hop-on, hop-off Franschhoek
Wine Tram.
