Early morning arrival and transfer by road<br />
to Villa de Leyva, one of Colombia’s finest<br />
colonial towns. En route, stop at Tunja and<br />
Boyacá bridge, the site of the turning point<br />
in Colombia's struggle <strong>for</strong> independence.<br />

Day 3: Villa de Leyva<br />
Full-day tour of this beautiful town of cobbled<br />
streets lined with whitewashed houses. Visit<br />
the nearby 120-million-year-old kronosaurus<br />

Day 4: Bogotá<br />
Transfer by road back to Bogotá, stopping<br />
at Zipaquirá en route to see the remarkable<br />
salt cathedral, built inside an old salt mine.<br />

Day 5: Bogotá<br />
Morning walking tour of historic La Candelaria<br />
district, see Botero’s art collection and visit the<br />
Gold Museum, featuring one of the world’s<br />
most complete collections of ancient gold<br />
artefacts. Afternoon at leisure or optional<br />
cable car ride to Monserrat hill <strong>for</strong> panoramic<br />

Day 6: Fly to Pereira<br />
Fly to Pereira in the coffee region, declared a<br />
world heritage site by UNESCO. Visit a local<br />
coffee farm to learn about the growing and<br />
production of high quality coffee beans.<br />
Afternoon at leisure and stay <strong>for</strong> 2 nights at the<br />
Hacienda San José, an old colonial-style house<br />

Day 7: Coffee region<br />
Today explore the verdant Cocora Valley,<br />
famous <strong>for</strong> its wax palm trees – the tallest in<br />
the world. Take a ride in a typical Jeep, walk<br />
into the cloud <strong>for</strong>est and visit the traditional<br />
villages of Filandia and Salento. (B, L)<br />
Day 8: Medellín<br />
Travel by road to Medellín (journey time<br />
approximately 7 hours), stopping at a scenic<br />
lookout <strong>for</strong> views over the Cauca River. Stay <strong>for</strong><br />
2 nights at the Hotel Poblado Plaza. (B)<br />
Day 9: Medellín<br />
A full-day tour to learn about the cultural and<br />
social trans<strong>for</strong>mation of the city. Visit the hillside<br />
Comuna 13 to see its street art and outdoor<br />
escalators, and take lunch with a cooking<br />
demonstration at Las Berracas, a community<br />
project empowering local women. Continue to<br />
the centre to see the curved sculptures by local<br />
artist Fernando Botero and onto Cerro Nutibara<br />

Days 10 & 11: Fly to Cartagena<br />
Transfer to the airport and fly to the beautiful<br />
Caribbean city of Cartagena. Stay at the Hotel<br />

town on a walking tour, visit the impregnable<br />
Spanish <strong>for</strong>t, San Felipe and the charming<br />
neighbourhood of Getsemani, and see San<br />
