The highest range in North Africa, the High
Atlas has many fertile valleys, snow-covered
peaks, rivers and waterfalls. About an hour’s
drive from Marrakech, the area can be visited
on a day trip or as part of a longer itinerary.
The lush Ourika Valley makes another excellent
day trip from Marrakech, with olive groves,
citrus tree orchards, willows and poplar trees
covering the slopes. Accommodation is in
luxurious converted kasbahs or more basic
local houses.
Fez & Meknes

Home to one of the oldest universities in the
world, Fez is considered to be the intellectual
capital and most imperial of Morocco’s cities,
famed for its labyrinthine souks. The tanneries
are a major highlight; you can watch the
centuries-old process of treating cowhide in
huge vats of dye.
To the west of Fez, Meknes is a prosperous
provincial town, cut in two by the river valley
of the Oued Boufekrane, with varied and busy
souks in its medina.
The Sahara Desert
& Surrounds

The start of the Sahara is marked by the fivekilometre
wide and 50-kilometre long band of
sand dunes called Erg Chebbi, with the small
Berber village of Merzouga located on the
fringe. The sand dunes here rise as high as
350 metres. Explore the otherworldly desert
landscapes by camel or in a 4x4 vehicle, and
make sure to spend a night under canvas here
so you can see the colours of the sunset and
sunrise over the sands.

Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
After lunch, depart for Fez and stay 2 nights

Morning cooking class at a traditional riad.
Afternoon tour of Fez, visiting the medieval
medina and exploring the famous souks and

Day 4: Marrakech
Fly to Marrakech and stay at the Riad Ilayka
for 2 nights. (B)
Day 5: Marrakech
Morning cooking class at a traditional riad.
Afternoon sightseeing tour visiting the
Saadian Tombs, Menara gardens, Koutoubia
Mosque, and Bahia Palace. Continue to the
souks and Djemaa el Fna square. Optional

Day 6: Essaouira
Travel to Essaouira, where you will visit
the ramparts of Skala, the seaport and the
medina. Enjoy an afternoon cooking class at
a local riad. Stay at the Riad Al Madina for
1 night. (B, D)
Day 7: Casablanca
This morning drive to Casablanca. Dinner at
Rick’s Café, a restaurant designed to recreate
the famous bar from the film Casablanca.
Stay at the Barcelō Casablanca for 1 night.
