Ever dependable, reliable, versatile,
consistent and vastly experienced, the list
could go on and on when you think of
words to describe arguably one of the most
popular members of Paul Heckingbottom’s
current squad.
So, it is perhaps no surprise at all that Chris
Basham was happy to recall his six previous
encounters against tonight’s visitors to S2.
From Jay McEveley’s handball at White Hart
Lane back in 2015, to Che Adams bagging a
two-minute brace in front of the Kop, fast forward
to 2019 and VAR denying John Lundstram, then
in 2020, Sander Berge’s first goal as a Blade.
Defeats in the 2020-21 campaign are perhaps less
memorable, but Bash has a typically unique take
on all of the action that has unfolded against Spurs
over the last eight years or so.
And looking ahead to this evening’s FA Cup
fifth-round tie, the 34-year-old feels it could prove
to be a welcome distraction from the pressure of
a promotion race, but knows only too well from
experience the size of the task the Blades will have
to overcome to reach the last-eight of the world’s
most famous cup competition.
