Chris recalls: “It was so nearly
a night to remember wasn’t it?
Only for Eriksen to spoil it! It was
a wet and windy night under the
Bramall Lane lights, I remember
it just felt right for us and we
sensed a shock before the game
and during the warm-up. There
was just something about the
Blades in cup competitions under
Cloughie. Eriksen’s first half free
kick was out of this world, but we
managed to stay in the tie and
kicking towards the Kop second
half, we knew they’d be sucking
the ball in the net. Che came off
the bench and scored twice in as
many minutes having only been
on the pitch for a while. We were
level and I always remember little
Louie Reed’s chance to score,
it was a half chance really, but
when the ball dropped to him,
I thought he was going to make a
real name for himself but it wasn’t
meant to be. Tottenham perhaps
felt a little bit vulnerable, but
Eriksen showed his class again
late on to nick the tie in their
favour and he was the difference
between the two sides. We had a
good side on paper, at times we
struggled for that consistency,
but in a one-off game we always
had a chance and nothing to lose
against one of the big Premier
League teams.”
