TO BUILD ON
RECENT STRIKE
Tommy Doyle has
set the target for
more big
contributions before the
end of the campaign after
his recent strike against
Millwall.
The Manchester City
loanee netted with a
superb free kick at The
Den to bring United level
in a topsy-turvy encounter
which eventually went the
way of the Lions.
But having just returned
from a recent injury setback,
Tommy was pleased to be
back on the score sheet
and has targeted more
big moments as United
approach the crucial final
stretch of another exciting
Championship campaign.

He said: “It was nice
to score. I like to score
and assist and try and
contribute. I have said
before I can contribute a
lot more and hopefully,
I can keep doing that now
but ultimately, we lost the
game at Millwall. The goal
was nice, but it didn’t really
mean anything because we
didn’t win the game. I want
to contribute more and try
and help the team as much
as possible. Hopefully I can
keep adding numbers.
“The majority of my
contributions have been
assists; I should score a
lot more. A lot of my goals
do come from set plays
- deadball situations. I’ve
only had one so far but in
open play I’m looking to
contribute more in terms of
goals, and it is something
I am working on with the
manager, Jack (Lester)
and Stu (Stuart McCall) to
improve in that area.”
Turning his attention to
the Championship run in,
Tommy knows just how
competitive the division
is and isn’t expecting any
favours as United look to
claw their way towards
promotion.
But he does feel the
experienced former
promotion winners within
United’s ranks will be a
huge help as the season
moves into March.
He explained: “It helps
a lot (having promotion
winners in the side). Lads
like me have not been in
this situation before, so it
does always help to have
a lot of senior lads who
can help you in certain
situations on the training
pitch or in the game.
We have a good mix of
experience and people
who perhaps haven’t
played as many games,
so we’ll stick together and
keep going.”
