Centerville’s Front Door to Community Activity

If you’re looking to get outdoors in Houston County,
Centerville offers up a great spot to get some fresh air, take
a walk or attend one of their many gatherings. Opening two
years ago, Center Park features a playground, walking trails
and pavilions.
The park has also become a central point for the city’s
events. Last year, the city hosted Food Truck Fridays,
farmers markets, the Fall Festival and their 4th of July
celebration at the location.
If you’d like to host an event at Center Park, the pavilion
is also available for rent.
The park is also a good place to stay active, as Special
Events Coordinator Tess Chambers explained.
“There are mile markers to let you know how long the track
is,” Chambers explained. “It’s busy all the time.”
The park has grown tremendously over the years, due in
large part to the events and splash pad, Chambers said.
“The splash pad has helped bring a lot of people to the area,
to take part in utilizing the park,” Chambers said. “The
events and stuff that we have there draw a lot of people.”
The splash pad is a perfect way to beat the summer heat
and is open from springtime to Labor Day.
Overall, having something outdoors to do in the city is
important to Centerville in serving the public, and they
believe the park does that perfectly.
“It gives them something to do,” Chambers said. “It gives
them a chance to be outside, be with their family or just
have some alone time, whether it’s walking through the
park, or a place to eat lunch. Just to have a quiet moment
and enjoy being outside.”
The value it adds to the community and to your budget is
a bonus as well.
“It provides an added value to the community, by giving
them a place that is clean, a place that doesn’t cost
anything,” Chambers said. “It doesn’t cost anything to go
there. It provides added value to the community because
it’s just a place to be able to gather or to enjoy.”
