Rozar Park
An Active Destination
By Will Oliver, Managing Editor
Rozar Park on Keith Drive in Perry
offers visitors an array of leisure options
in an active destination format.
Sedrick Swan, Perry leisure services
director, provided some more
information on the amenities and
attractions there at Rozar and how
they support the city’s mission of
prioritizing the quality of life for its
residents and a pleasurable experience
for its visitors.
“It’s considered one of our destination
parks, and we try to have a larger
playground structure, ballfields,
possibly a community center and
walking trails,”
Swan said.
Throughout the year, Rozar will host
various youth athletics as well as
family community events.
To add to this, visitors will find an oval
off-road RC track between the baseball
and soccer fields closer to Kings
Chapel Road. A local group comes out
once a month to host races, but the
track is public access as long as Rozar
is open.
Two fishing ponds there are stocked
annually. An annual fishing rodeo
brings lovers of the sport to the area.
Want to take a walk and enjoy nature?
A 1-mile trail awaits.
Outdoor basketball courts, an
outdoor chess table and
horseshoe pitching
area encourage
others to come
out and enjoy
the area.
An 18-hole disc golf
course brings out annual
tournaments as well, offering
some challenging and some
beginner-friendly shots.
Adult sports at the park will
be expanded upon here at
some point, including Wiffle
ball, flag football and ultimate
Frisbee leagues.
The youth basketball league is
primarily housed in the gym
there at the park. Pickleball
courts are located inside the
facility as well.
Along with the Juneteenth
celebration, the Perry Water
Battle takes place at Rozar,
offering ways for kids and
adults alike to beat the heat
during the dog days of summer.
The city offers a Special
Needs Easter Egg Hunt around
the time of the holiday.
Movie nights may be coming
to Rozar eventually, offering
fun flicks in the greenspace of
the park.
The surrounding area is mostly
residential, and one day, the
park may extend all the way to
Barbara Calhoun Park.
Unless there is a planned
activity, the park is normally
open from sunrise to sunset.
