CENTERVILLE’S SEAFOOD STAPLE
“We will make 75 gallons of coleslaw … we go through 600 pounds
of whole catfish in 12 hours. [All together,] we cook 1,000 pounds of
seafood in three nights, easy.”
And the community shells out for their culinary creations.
“I have pictures of people standing in line all the way to the fence
next door to the post office,” Andy said. “They’ll start lining up at four
o’clock. It’s not uncommon for us to have 75, 80 people standing in line
for us to open the doors.”
Producing a friendly atmosphere, the restaurant is family owned,
family oriented and the owners are fully devoted to their business
and in the trenches with their employees. Their employees are
equally dedicated. One of their employees has been with the
restaurant for 27 years.
“I am in the kitchen cooking and expediting orders myself,” Andy
said. “[Debi] and her sister run the front end. They meet, greet and seat
people, run the register, take money, take reservations. We all clean
tables, we all do what we have to do.”
Andy and Debi Cannon, Owners of Snellgrove Seafood
Their customer base shares their devotion to the restaurant, and Andy cited
regulars from local governments, the police department and the elderly.
“You know what I’ll tell you about old folks: they’ve been eating a long
time,” Andy explained. “They know where the good food is at.”
Debi added that many of their customers have grown up eating
at Snellgrove.
“We have people that, when we bought the place, they were
little kids, and now they’ve grown up, had their own kids, and
they’ve grown up, and their kids have already had kids. It’s
unbelievable,” Debi said.
Among their regulars is a group that the owners befriended who
makes a sizable drive to visit them.
“They probably drive 80 miles round trip, every weekend,”
Andy said. “He’s the mayor of Rentz, over by Dublin. They come every weekend, and
they’ll bring 10 to 20 people.”
Andy also mentioned customers who make dining at Snellgrove a part of their routine.
“We have customers and groups that have a standing reservation, every Thursday night, every
Saturday night,” Andy said.
“We have a couple that comes out here to eat all three nights, he’s retired from the fire
department at Centerville … we’ve had other people that eat here two nights a week,”
Debi added.
Whether you’re familiar to the restaurant or if it’s your first time going, Andy and Debi promise
a delicious and unforgettable experience at Snellgrove Seafood.
“We treat everybody like family, no matter who comes in the door,” Debi said.
Snellgrove Seafood is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.,
and is located at 632 North Houston Lake Road.
