decided to come together and form a little theatre.”<br />
WRLT moved from stage to stage until eventually finding a permanent location<br />
in a dairy barn on Elberta Road. Folding chairs and hay bales were commonplace,<br />
until the group purchased an old movie theatre on Front Street. They performed<br />
here until it burned down during one of their performances.<br />
After the fire, WRLT was once again nomadic, moving from stage<br />
to stage, until they purchased a building that at one time, was a<br />
barbecue restaurant. They’ve been there ever since.<br />
For 62 years, WRLT has dedicated itself to performing for the people<br />
of <strong>Houston</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
“Storytelling is a tradition throughout our history,” Felton said. “It<br />
goes all the way back to ancient Greece. It’s important — people<br />
have messages that need to get out, and fortunately we are blessed<br />
with having good writers out there in the world that want to tell a<br />
specific story to enlighten or entertain, or bring a piece of happiness<br />
into the world. By using the format of theatre, I think it can get to a<br />
pretty good audience.”<br />

The City of Perry shouldn’t be counted out. Perry Players Community<br />
Theatre, getting their start in the early 1980s, has served audiences with<br />
quality productions ever since.<br />
President James Strickland said that the theatre was started as a small group<br />
of people with a passion for local theatre.<br />
“They would travel around and do shows in different places, [it was] just really<br />
small,” Strickland said. “Then, around the early 90s, mid 90s, they bought the<br />
building, everyone got together and bought the building at 909 Main Street where<br />
it presently is. They purchased that building and renovated it into the present day<br />
theatre it is now.”<br />
The 170-seat theatre has been home to many performances throughout the years and<br />
has seen a number of updates to stay current.
