morale boosting 3-0 home win against
Bradford City. A Michael Brown brace
(one a penalty) and a Peter Ndlovu strike
downed the Bantams in the penultimate
league game of a famous season.

A stunning second half
2022 showing ensured United
came back from a goal down to defeat
QPR at Loftus Road. Rangers led thanks
to a goal from Charlie Austin, but a
ruthless second 45 saw goals from
Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Robinson and Conor
Hourihane as United held onto a play-off
spot going into the final game against
Fulham.
United had turned their
2014 season around to climb to
eighth with two games remaining, but
well short of the points required for a
play-off spot. Nigel Clough’s side were
six league games unbeaten when they
arrived at Boundary Park but fell behind
to Oldham after future Blade James
Wilson netted. Ex-Oldham striker Chris
Porter equalised six minutes from time
with his 11th of the season.
United held a slender
1989 advantage in the automatic
promotion places of the old Division
Three and travelled to Fulham who
still held a slim chance of catching the
Blades. Goals from Tony Agana and Ian
Bryson earned a 2-2 draw and United
would eventually earn promotion with a
game to spare.
