Since its introduction to YouTube a year ago, the
first video depicting seven Chaldeans living together
in Metro Detroit has collected more than 22,000
hits. The initial videos follow Patrice, Fadi, Jason,

complete fiction.

On August 10, 1933, following the creation of a
new Iraqi state, General Bakr Sidqi led Iraq’s
new army to the village of Simmele, where he
promised the Assyrians there would no retribution
if they surrendered their weapons. After the
Assyrians agreed, more than 3,000 of them were
massacred over a three-day period. This stirring
video tribute to those murdered includes several
disturbing images.

singer and songwriter Raed George, an Iraqi musician
who began his musical career composing
musical tracks for the Iraqi National Radio Station
in 1989. In 1997, George’s music won the golden
medal of International Cairo Radio and Television
Festival for best Arabic Audio Track of the Year.

Comedy Show packed local comedy clubs like
Mark Ridley’s in Royal Oak and JD’s in Southfield
before landing on The Second City’s stage in Novi
last spring. With a cast of Chaldean, Indian and
African-American actors, the show pokes multicultural
fun with sketches like “Chaldean Night
Live” and a new concept of Bluetooth technology.

Held at Royal Oak Music Theatre in March of
2007, the first Miss Chaldean Beauty Pageant
featured 13 contestants from all over Metro
Detroit vying for the chance to wear the celebratory
tiara and receive the triumphant bouquet
of roses. Chanell Hana won the crown.
