Augmented Reality Digital Platform
“Maspalomas Costa Canaria San Bartolomé de Tirajana”
The municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is
taking a big step towards the future of tourism
with the implementation of an innovative Augmented
Reality Tourist Route Management Platform
with geo-positioning. This platform will show,
in real time, the tourist, informative, natural and
heritage resources of the municipality through a
unique and enriching experience for visitors.
The mobile application for this platform is available
on all major platforms without the need for
any additional device, and will allow tourists to
visualise tourist routes on their smartphones.
Most surprisingly, they will be able to follow the
routes live from anywhere in the world thanks to
the GPS location of their mobile devices.
This cutting-edge technology opens up new possibilities
to expand the information and promotional
offer of the tourist destination of Maspalomas
Costa Canaria. It complements traditional
media, such as brochures and paper maps, and
expands the reach and audience of existing digital
media, such as the internet and social media.
Thanks to this platform, visitors to San Bartolomé
de Tirajana will have access to more comprehensive
and detailed tourist information, which will
improve their travel experience and increase their
satisfaction. In addition, augmented reality technology
will offer a unique and immersive experience
that will make tourists feel more connected
to the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
Technical specifications
The Augmented Reality Platform of Maspalomas
Costa Canaria - San Bartolomé de Tirajana allows
not only the tourist routes to be viewed, but also
their creation, modification and maintenance in
their entirety. This means that the landmarks that
make up each route can be updated, thus offering
accurate and up-to-date information to tourists.

The APP is available for Android and iOS mobile
devices. Once the user has installed and launched
the APP, they will receive a welcome message offering,
as a minimum, the use of the APP in Spanish,
English and French.
Once the language is chosen, a brief and simple
tutorial is offered to learn how to use Augmented
Reality. From here on, the visitor will be able to interact
in two ways:
In Situ: the device's geo-positioning and camera
will be activated to enter Virtual Reality mode so
that by simply directing the camera to the point
the user wish to visit, surfaces will be detected,
and Augmented Reality maps will be displayed
and points of tourist and/or cultural interest will
be detected, showing the correct, necessary and
appropriate information for each of them.
Investigation: all available routes will be displayed
with their points of interest. For each of them
the user can consult information, descriptions,
geo-positioning on the map and all the functionalities
offered by Augmented Reality even if they
are not at the exact GPS point of the consulted
route. This functionality is ideal for the prior preparation
of the trip from the source country.

Mound) in 3D, Arteara Necropolis.
An example of the promotional management of
the main archaeological landmark of the Arteara
Necropolis is the 3D projection of the Túmulo del
Rey (King's Mound), which is published on the
Augmented Reality Digital Platform "Maspalomas
Costa Canaria - San Bartolomé de Tirajana".
The importance of the King’s Burial Mound reaches
its highest point on the day of the spring and
autumn equinox (the day when night and day are
equal in length).
At dawn on that day, the sunrise is projected directly
onto the King's Mound. It is thanks to the
knowledge of this historical past, and astrophysical
studies, that the beginning of spring was
known in the past.
