The Department of Economic Promotion and Tourism of the
Arucas City Council is set to celebrate the third edition of the
“Arucas Art Showroom” at the “Casa Quintanilla” estate
The Department of Economic Promotion and Tourism of
the City Council of Arucas, fully aware of the complex, difficult
and uncertain situation caused by the health crisis in
the wake of the pandemic and the outbreak of the war in
Ukraine, which has led to an increase in inflation, continues
to pull out the stops to achieve the economic revival of the
municipality, through the implementation of commercial
revitalisation projects, as part of the measures included in
the "Arucas Economic and Social Reactivation Plan".
This commercial revitalisation project has been financed by
the Department of the Presidency of the Cabildo de Gran
Canaria, through a nominative subsidy amounting to 30,000
euros, which represents 75% of the total cost of the project,
with the municipality making up the remaining 25%.
Following the success of the two previous editions of the
“Arucas is Art Showroom”, held in December 2021 at the
Tourism Office and in June 2022 at the Casa Gourié and municipal
gardens, the Department of Economic Promotion
is committed to continuing in a similar vein and is to hold
the third edition of this event in a truly emblematic location,
namely the Casa Quintanilla, promoting the economic development
of the coast of Arucas.
This ancestral home, located at number 5 on the coastal
road of Quintanilla and just 15 minutes from the island's
capital, was the scene of conversations and meetings related
to the daily life of the families who lived and worked in
agriculture there, mainly in the production of Canary Island
bananas.
This family house, also known as "Tía Paca's house", has recently
been restored by its owners, giving it a new lease of
life while respecting its original features, making it the ideal
place for the celebration of events and weddings.
On 3rd, 4th and 5th November, Casa Quintanilla will be
transformed into a meeting place, for bonding with clients,
for creating opportunities, and is a showcase for different
companies in the textile and accessories, decoration, cosmetics,
jewellery and handicraft sectors.
This year will see around 20 stalls taking part, all of which
will display great originality and creativity through their
products. They include: Cahorritos (children's fashion), Ringana
(vegan cosmetics), El Arte de la Lana (the felting of
wool figures), Abuc (swimwear), Ama Obroni (Afroshop, textiles,
accessories and decoration), Tour Man (men's fashion),
Delia Ramírez (polymer clay and CD recycling), Chocolate
Creative (decoration), Alma&Canaria (handmade accessories),
El Poster (illustration), Musharte (handmade accessories),
Misielo (textiles and accessories), Jordana (women's
fashion), Telas Pinto (botanical prints on natural fabrics), La
Jerezaza Artesana (textile-crochet), Rosae (handmade jewellery),
Antahkarana (decoration, Yoga articles), Ranartesana
(handicraft-deco textile), Essenah Galery (illustrations).
As in previous editions, a space with a hint of exclusivity will
be created, which will unite art and commerce, giving visibility
to artists and young talents, encouraging shopping in
a pleasant atmosphere and promoting the municipality as
an artistic and commercial destination.
To provide a pleasant backdrop to the day, there will be live
music, courtesy of violinist Regina Schinglerova, rock and roll
band The Cavalliers, saxophonist duo Neftalí Robaina and
Marta Apine, dance company 20_20 Productions with their
staging of El Coral de Fuego and Las criaturas que esconde
el mar de Arucas. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the work
entitled Mar y Mal by the Arucas-born artist Juan Martín and
watercolour paintings by the artist Martín Serrini.
Event-goers will also be able to take part in a range of different
workshops; Maite Mendoza will give an events make-up
workshop, Leticia Martín Gascón will give a Yoga workshop,
Fabiola Santana will give a felted wool soap workshop, Juan
Carlos Hernández Carmona will give an Osteopathy workshop,
Delia Ramírez will give a demonstration of polymer
clay and CD recycling, and Ana from Bada Cosmética Coreana
will give a Facial Yoga workshop.
In addition to the Luna & Lunera toy library, there will also be
a food truck nearby, and free parking will be available. Bus
company Global will step up the timetable for services 103-
105-116-117-213-215-325.
On Friday 3rd November, the event opens at 16:00, the inauguration
by the local authorities and the Cabildo is at 17:00,
and closing will be at 20:00. On Saturday 4th November the
event will run from 10:00 to 20:00, and on Sunday from 10:00
to 15:00.
