AMSA ADVOCACY
Our advocacy team collaborated during their February advocacy retreat to
ensure AMSA’s advocacy represents and includes YOU. The team had the
fantastic opportunity of learning from Dr Professor Sabe Sabesan about
making impactful advocacy.
Based on the national survey that the AMSA membership filled out, the
advocacy team identified the following eight national priorities:
Culture of medicine
Improving medicine’s culture and prioritising medical student
wellbeing
Medical Training Pipeline
Focusing on the shortages of medical workforces in rural and regional
areas
Advocating for greater transparency in admission to medical schools
Internships
Lobbying for internships to be available to ALL Australian medical
graduates and working towards a nationally standardised internship
process
Medical Education and Clinical Placements
Ensuring high quality medical education and placements across all
medical schools
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Medical Students
Working to reduce the health inequity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islanders in conjunction with recruiting and retaining an Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander workforce
Mental Health in Medicine
Reducing mental health stigma in medicine
Disability and Inclusion in Medicine
Improving accessibility and inclusivity of placements and medical
training for people with disability
Climate Change and Health
Advancing the resilience and adaptation of the health sector against
climate change
