AMSA Advocacy Team at ABC News Q+A
AMSA’s Advocacy Team represented medical students at Q+A,
specifically asking about GPs and our current health system
Isabel Lee, our Advocacy Communications Officer asked the following
to the Q+A panel:
“As medical students, we are seeing our peers discouraged from entering GP
training as we see our doctors on GP placement struggling with patient
numbers and running small businesses, whilst hospital placements consist of
a majority of our placement time. With the rising cost of living and poor pay
disincentivising students from entering the GP pathway, what are some ways
you are planning on increasing retention and interest that will have tangible
effects?”

AMSA co-signed the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) Open
Letter to call for funding which can alleviate the current cost of living
crisis
